Yeah for the UAV I'm looking to make a launcher and control truck for it. Maybe have it as a Border Patrol Vehicle. I picked it up on sale for under $10.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'll go with the rocket launcher idea.

Less than two weeks to kick off: every one ready?

Yup, got my M1117 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle ready to go.

Current users / status;

Bulgaria - 7 (6 with the troops in Afghanistan), more to be delivered.

Colombia - 39, Used by the Army, it was expected the acquisition of a batch of the same amount. These vehicles are the Infantry Carrier Vehicle version, purchased to supplement Colombia's recently acquired fleet of BTR-80's, another 39 were expected to enter operational service in 2012.

Iraq - 264, used by Iraqi National Police units.
United States - 1,836. The vehicle is primarily used by U.S. Military Police Units and formerly by Convoy Security Units in Iraq.

Used in these conflicts:

War in Afghanistan
Iraq War
Colombian Conflict

I'm still in with the Type 83 107m Rocket launcher. I'll probably do Masterbox's Iraqi insurgents as the crew. Put it on a urban set base, like it's being fired from a concealed position within town. Beyond that I'll have to see how it goes.

The weapon fits in Syria and Iraq.

Well .... I got an Airfix 1/48th Warrior, but couldn't wait.

So here's progress so far (about 90% done) for a bit of inspiration. Still got a few to pick from, the problem as always is more which one to do, not finding one.

Well my 1/48th M1A2 just turned up.

It needs a lot of work to make it current and I've asked a few questions over on the Modern US board to help decide what to do. If it's beyond me meagre scratch building skills I'll have to make this as an earlier vehicle and make another warrior instead ....

Last USMC M1A2 version in Afghanistan. An army M1A2 with full TUSK would be way too hard .....

Great to see 4 people already up and running with some interesting builds....

That 1/48 resin Abrams looks lovely and detailed. I'm surrised at how good the sides with the road wheells & tracks look....

It should look pretty good built up, there's a couple of really impressive builds out there. I've gotta make a press mould of a roadwheel so I can have some extras for stowage and some track too as I was thinking about having one of the trackguards damaged. Once I've got that squared away I should be good to get started .....

I'm going to go with the Meng GAZ Tiger for this campaign. It doesn't get more up-to-date than the current Crimea stand-off. Some great reference photos from recent news reports pulled together here

So has anyone started building yet? Or do we rename this the In-active Duty campaign? Just joking....I'm the one supposed to be leading the way but just don't seem to get time anymore with work and family and other stuff.....

Trumpeter's Guardian is waiting, opened the box, checked the sprues, decals are good.
But I haven't started cutting the plastic... still need to clear the workbench.

It's past time to put up some progress pictures.

There's not a lot to the launcher. It's basically one sprue and a PE fret.


I went ahead and pre-painted the tubes, and the inside parts of the tube casement. I went with green thinking that that is what they would have come with. Exposed areas will be painted sand, like they had repainted them after arrival. I also prepainted the wheel centers.


Step assembly of the tube case and addition of fixtures to the side. The prepainting to the tubes was a waste of time as most of it had to be removed so the tubes could be slid through the holes. The shot of the tires was included to fill out the picture.


Trailer assembly. The trailing arms are molded in travel position but you can modify them for firing. Basically you have to cut the trailing arms loose and attach included pieces to them. I'm going with the firing position.
The other two shots are of the trailer components.


Most assembly done and ready for paint.


This thing is tiny. Assembly was pretty quick, a couple of nights. Next stage will be the figures, followed by the base. I'll probably go with Syria for this one.

Hey guys, here are some pictures of what I choose to build for this campaign. A trumpeter M1A1 Panther that I picked up not too long ago, built right out of the box, and shot with Tamiya colors and AK interactive weathering pigments.

Anyway, rather than the planned Meng GAZ Tiger, for this campaign I'm doing Airfix's 1/48 Quad biles & trailers



Each sprue contains 1 quad bike and trailer:



There are 2 of these and a seperate sprue for the 4 figures

I started on one bike having prepainted the parts first

Given the size I painted all the parts before assembly....that might have been a mistake as it kept coming apart with the paint being peeled off. So it's looking quite rough & battered and mis-alligned in places. Maybe appropriate after hard use in A'stan....

I did the second one without paint and the construction was a lot neater and better fitting. Just shows the engineering of these tiny pieces: the build is spot on but a few molucles of paint can put things out of allignment very easy. Full credit to Airfix for these lovely little kits and the mistakes are all of my own making.

Also did the trailers last night and will have some more pics in a day or two. Might even start on a little base for them.

Sean, I'd love to see some affordable ATVs in 1/35.

A quick update.

I shot a quick coat of sand on the launcher. I plan on weathering the bajeebuz out of it.


The launcher is mostly PE and brass tubing and even though it's about the size of a sugar cube, it's got a bit of weight to it. I super glued it to the mounts and in a fixed position.


And that's it for now.
