Hi John
as far as I remember the PE around the wheel arches was mis-labled on this one when I did it. Dry fit them all first before glueing any.....Some appear to fit, but are actually in the wrong place. Other than tha it a great kit

Might need to rename this the "inactive duty" campaign and I'm just as guilty! Too many great campaigns going on at the one time. So as well as beong behind in this one I failed to meet the deadline for Boots on the Ground, nearly done for Armoured Car & Trumpeter campaigns, desperatly need to get re-started for Unfinished Business and haven't even started on Extreme Trucks, Desertised, What If 4 or Bronco.

Too many campaigns, not enough time! But it's still fun

Hi all,
A late starter for this Campaign but hopefully I'll have time to complete the little thing.
The project just started is:

Caterpillar 924H. /1/50th scale.
Currently just disassembling the diecast and stripping paint - some quite nice detail hidden under the heavy paint.
Just have to add all the appropriate hydraulic connectors and hosing and alter the bucket.
Will post progress as it happens.

Build time is sort of on and off for me during the spring and summer months. Plus I've been building some of my post-apoc stuff....blame DayZ. I just sort went dead in the water on this one. I've done the same with the Emergency Services Campaign. I'm probably going to back out of that one but I should be able to get this one back on track.

,
Paint stripping completed and now about to breakout the files and mini-drill with grinding attachments.
Just checked the hydraulic main piston dimensions against the Cat 924 Parts Manual and it looks like they need replacing, but thats a job for later.

The cab hasn't been paint stripped because it will not be used (except as a dimension template).
Cheers for looking in .

Update:

Suspension

And Body details

I'll try something different, don't know if it will work, I'm going to build and paint both suspension & wheels.
I'll work the Body as another separate unit.. let's see how that works out !!

Nice work Roger, can't wait to see how that works out !

Project parts arrived ....... x2 MATVs (resin gaming pieces) and a stash of Airfix stuff, another Warrior, 2 Jackals and a Coyote. PE, weapons and stowage sets are still to land .....

This stuff all has a 3 month deadline to be built (for a book project) so I should get something finished out of it before the campaign ends : )

I got a bit of work done on this one. The first picture was actually taken a few weeks (or months) ago. They are from Masterbox's Iraq Insurgent's set. I'm kind of leaving the location vague as I think it could be applied to Iraq, Syria, West Bank, etc. Anyway, I'm debating on whether I'll use all or just some of the figures. I'm scaling back the scene as a whole.

I had planned to have the launcher in a firing position and had modified the chassis per the instructions. I've seen pictures of launchers being halfway set up and fired...firing on the go...so I re-attached the trailing arms. The launcher is pretty top heavy...the tubes are all brass. The trailing arms are pretty delicate.

And that's where she stands. I'll probably finalize layout and start painting and working on the base this week.

That Guardian is coming along nicely john!

Brent, what scale is that MATV? Looks very deailed but as a "gaming minature" I expect it's quite small?

Alex, I like thos 4 figures....I actually got them myself last week plus a MIG resin "Pasestinian with RPG" to go with them. Will be watching your build with particular interest.

Sean, it's a nice little set. I am probably not going to use the guy on the ground. I actually went back and forth on whether to use the kid. I'll probably use him though.

Anyway, some nice work being done here. I'm sort of stuck in decision mode funkville. I managed to clear out a few things off the bench this weekend so I should be getting back on track.

update:

I think I'll give a pass with Tamyia Buff, the colour is a bit too dark, it will still have filters & washes over it.
Not sure yet..

I'm back in action. Some work on the figures. I got the basic paint done on them...at least three of them. I'm still debating on the the guy on the ground.

The funky bunch needs some wall space to be ducking behind...so it's wall time. I drew inspiration from the figure set's box art. The bottom is made from good old Tamiya Brick Wall Set sections. I used a section of thick styrene I had as the upper wall. I sandwiched the styrene slab between the brick sections. Boxed the ends with styrene and filled in the seams. Clamped and set up. Once dry I put down a coat of gray primer and then dark tan as the base coat. I'll paint the brick a lighter sand color but want that dark tan as an under-coat to allow for color depth and some variation.

Originally, I had the inner court paved with square tiles. I usually take styrene and set it atop a base...in this case cardboard layer. I used the same base for the sidewalk. After my traditional placement of the penny, I added Celluclay to the unpaved areas. I left it to dry overnight. I really didn't like how it turned out so I ripped up the tile and its base. I also shortened the base about an inch and a half. I filled the interior with celluclay and made some track and foot impressions.

And that's where she stands. It's literally outside in the back of my truck drying in the sun.

Hey Sean, it's designed for use with 28mm gaming figs, it's actually 1/50th and so should fit in with both 1/48th and 1/56th gaming vehicles.

And good progress guys, I'm liking that M1117, it's an attractive looking vehicle although I agree the Tamiya buff looks a little dark as is?

Those insurgent figs are interesting too Alex, looks they have a ton of conversion possibilities ......

And ..... I've made a little progress on the M-ATVs. They're big boys, much bigger than the Jackals and stand over even the Abrams too!

Pretty straight-forward builds, just the usual's as with any resin kits. The detail is a bit crude in places but the basic castings are nice and sharp and with a few additions (tow shackles, some chain, mirrors, front grill mesh, rear mudguards, step ladder and spare wheel bracket, the aerials and wiring for them and the ECM gear, and some mesh and stowage to the rear storage cage) they'll smaten up.

The solid windows are the worst features but I drilled and filed out the turret and will fit tinted glass to them and the main body. All things considered I think they should look pretty smart after painting and weathering.

cheers
Brent

Brent, that M1117 is painted Tamyia Desert Yellow XF-59, that looks a bit dark, that's why I was thinking of giving a few washes of Tamyia Buff.
Let's see how that goes..

The tamyia rattle can Desert Yellow is spot on the colour I was looking for but my LHS has run out of it...
I'll have to improvise then

Nice looking M-ATV's... I still have mine to finish for the Extreme Trucks Campaign.

Nice work guys !!

Here's another update, Buff coat

And rear light & antenna w/PE primed ( 2 sets )

With the filters & wash I'm hoping to get a blend desert tone on the Guardian.
Next: Decals, rear lights setup.
I will add the filters, washes & dirt, and after that I will work on the turret and some stowage maybe.

Completed most of the detailing, apart from the stuff that's too fragile for handling while painting which will go on after most of the finishing is completed.

Sooooo they're ready for priming, although I'll be building the Abrams and rest of the British stuff before completing the paint ...........

Brent

Look how big these things are compared to a Bradley and Land Rover !!!
