i thought he was a jerk with a name like uday.
saddams son. he has to be a retart or truoble maker :

Interesting thread... I suppose its just conjecture that Uday, is or was, another member of this site That not withstanding, I think that calling someone a jerk or "retarded" because of a name is as bad as what this Uday person has done.. We are for the most part all adults here...

I suppose if some one came here as a legit memeber and had a name like Adolf or Saddam they would be looked down upon, and perhaps called names? What would occur next? Would they be asked to change thier sign in name or perhaps leave the site??

I don't think that anybody here will ban or look badly at anybody whose name is Saddam or Adolf. I think that people has to be appraised on what do they contribute and how do they do it. If their contribution is next to zero in terms of relevancy to the site, they behave unfairly or abusively towards other members or suggest links to sites containing offensive content and on top of that they've chosen a nick like the above mentioned ones I think that banning them is what Jim has to do in order to keep the standards the site has reached in all senses...

Good to see changes being made to improve the site, not disrupt it.
If I didn't like a site, I would not go there.
I would not disrupt it for others, or do childish, vindictive things.

People on this sight may blame me and some of the members of the DSB for some of the shenanigans going on in this community. I just wish to say that I am in total agree with Jim and that some of the members os DSB and I are trying to clean up the Chatroom when we use it. Certain things will be expected if you are a member of DSB. Fun was all I wanted when SS-74 and I started this in Sept '01, to find likeminded modelling people who like to discuss the hobby, share laughter and have a good time on-line. Never in my worst nightmare did i ever think that some people would abuse my trust(I an not totally innocent here either), with all the swearing, sex talk, sending of porno accross the internet. Some of those people have either resigned from DSB or left on their own. Well, good riddance. I got sick of the distraction and crap that used to go on. All I want to do is start over and invite anyone interested in joining our fun group. This is not part of the Us vs. Them controversy that has been going on, I want the Pigs in my group to be fun people and good modellers, willing to share their knowledge with others. From now on, anyone who joins cannot be either immature, bad natured or use inappropiate language. Slips are understandable, but intentional uses of bad language will cause that person to be banned from the DSB and they will be reported to Jim. Well, comments about this are welcome. Just send me a message in the site or e-mail at [email protected].

Why even have a DSB club? We all have one good club already. Armorama. I think having 'factions' only isolates members.

Why not just have the DSB, or whatever, as chatroom only type of thing?

I just can't understand the reason for any faction. If that be based on a social thing or on what subjects one chooses to model...

What are you going to use as a determining factor for the above criteria? Will there be a written application and or a session in the chatroom to prove maturity and and the fact the "applicant" is good natured.. Or will there be a panel to determine this? I am asking this not to stir the pot, but to understand.. Your idea of these values may be different then mine or someone elses.

Have you read some of the backlog of threads in the DSB? Most of us (the ones who are regulars, anyway) are less serious than the normal citizen of Armorama. Our threads in there rarely have anything even remotely resembling normalcy. We are going to make friends with kindred spirits, it's human nature, the off-center are going to befriend the off-center. Would you rather have us throwing these threads up in random locations around the board? It seems to me that would cause more problems than having the DSB around for us to use out of sight of the more serious minded members. I know I get a little upset when I see a thread switch into a foreign language outside of the foreign language forum, so I can only imagine how others would feel if a thread suddenly took a left turn into DSB territory. As for factions, we already have plenty of those. We call them the foreign language forums, Armorama UK, the different modeling SIGs, etc...

So why not just have a forum where you can have 'silly' conversations? Isn't that what the Junk Drawer is for? Why a club you have to join?

Besides, I see clowning around in other random places and it sure doesn't bother me...

The DSB is only supposed to be a little club-thing which is free to join for everyuone, and is just a little thing we have to be silly? The junk-drawer is normally just used now for the "hooray I'm ***** Now! Beers on me" threads, and If you do have a problem with the dsb, then don't join,or don't visit, its just that simple!

If you do have a problem with the dsb

Who said anything about having a problem with the DSB.. Surely not I... My post was, and is, how does one determine what is immature and bad tempered?

Animal,DSB stands for Der Sontagg Bund,German for The sunday Model Club It was started by Pak40 and SS 74 It was meant not to be taken seriously It is not a club for everyone's taste anybody can be a member What we are trying to do is clean it up some Some of the members were doing stuff that just wasn't right Like foul language and posting porn sites in the chat That is the type of behavior that we will not tolereate
But I have to wonder if some members of this site just want us to go away

Personally, I think it's a good place to go where members can talk about things non-model related and still have the model affiliation. Hopefully I made myself clear and just say that I support the DSB . (++)

Thanks for explaining that to me. I haven't been on the chat side too often. I hope the guys sort it out and clean it up. I really hate to see negative things posted on our site. It took me a very long time to find a place to share an interest with so many wonderful people from all walks of life and from all over the world. One of the biggest attraction for me at this site is that there seemed to be no ethnic problems here and that we all are getting along with one comon bond. The love of building models and sharing this with the world. I hope that no one takes offense to my statements here. The world is a lousy place in general and here is a perfect place to excape from the realities of our day to day world and have fun. I have made a lot of friends here and hope to make many more. Thanks Jim..

I second this. As a somewhat silly person myself I think I understand the motivation for the DSB. Plus let's remember the DSB is an OPT-IN board. Nobody here has to even see their posts unless they opt to. And even then you can opt-out. Of course this was true for the ill-fated Current Events forum and look how that turned out.

Anyways I am glad the the core DSB folks want to help police their members so we don't have the kind of things going on we have lately.

Thanks,
Jim

STAFF_JIM,
Well done. I do not know the full story,(because of my refusal to condonesomeones childish behaviour) but have been following bits and pieces. You have suuport from members of this site who really know what goes on here, so have no fear in what you have undertaken. KUDOS A JOB WELL DONE. Todd

Well done Jim, you have my full support here also. I did not like the uday stuff when it started to appear over at ML and when it reared its ugly head here I was suprised that people took it seriously.

Anyway I am glad it is cleaned up and sorted out. As to the behaviour of members, yes a lid has to be kept on this but in general to me it does not seem out of hand as the vast majority of people who come here are well mannered and considerate to their fellow users. Get rid of those who cause hassle - yes - but let us not turn this site into one like ML where every post is scrutinised by the Web Police and the slightest infraction can lead to a public humilliation session.

I have said it before and I will say it again (and probably this will not be the last either), I come to this site to chat to fellow modellers about modelmaking, not sex, world politics or sport, just modelmaking.

Keep up the good work Jim

Can someone just lock down this thread? I really don't see it as serving any useful purpose.. Jim
