A simple layout.. but really gives the feeling of an abandoned area. I also like the look of the rusted out beams.. not too much and not too little.
Nice all around
Cheers

Hi Greg. Overall it looks good. I like the figures and pzr III. The base is a cool idea, but maybe a little too large for one vehicle and a few figures? Thats a lot of space to fill with interest. There appears to be a gap between the wall and girder at the back right corner (first image). The main wall pieces look great and to scale, but the bricks scattered around are way over scale for this scene, in my opinion.

Thanks a lot guys
The base was larger then I'm used to trying and I would've liked to add more T-34 turrets, a crane and what not. The plastistruct wasn't gluing together for me so I fought with the building pieces a lot. I think the wall cracked opened during picture taking. I felt a larger base was needed to give some scale to enormity of the factories.
I enjoy the PC Close Combat Series: Cross of Iron, so inspiration came from there too, especially the flame thrower use

Great work. I'v been following this project for a while now, so its nice to see it complete in such a good fashion.
I love the close combat games, and if you love them I would recommend that you try out the Combat Mission series of games by Battlefront.com (I recommend CM: Normandy and Shock Force)

Diorama composition is a tricky art. Balance and focus is important. Much like looking at a snapshot, you want to make sure the edges are cropped succinctly. Model dioramas easily lose the viewers' attention when there is too much dead space. The impact of the detailed vehicles and figs are washed out. Not every feature of your "story" needs to be told. You want the viewer to be left wanting more, not thinking you displayed too much. Hope these help

The newer remakes are much better then the older close combats. Except the newest " panthers in the fog" I didn't care for. Last Stand Arnhem is my other favorite.
Thanks Zare and Roy. I'll keep my eyes for CM. My old computer didn't support it before but I'll re check.

Greg,
the model and figures are really nicely done, as is the factory setting. If I could make one comment it would be the placement of the two Soviet figs on the right (including the flamethrower). The German TC is showing through the open hatch of the turret which indicates the tank is immobile, but still crewed and dangerous. The one figure is right in front of the tank's coaxial MG and with a very slight traverse to the the right the flamethrower operator is too. Maybe have those figs coming in more from the other side, or rear of the tank?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Guy - I think military plans don't always go accordingly and there are always casualties on both sides. I agree the turret commander may wipe out one or both of those guys, maybe that's why the sgt. is waving back the machine gunner. But then again maybe the flame thrower will fire before their men are hit. ??? That's the suspense

Any idea what you used size wise for the girders?, Evergreen and Plastruct have a few sizes and I am unsure what would look right for 48th scale.
Like how you have them rusted too.

Thanks guys!
Jon I just had knee surgery but I'll venture out to the shed tomorrow to see if I have the package #s for you. I'm lucky to have a hobbystore a couple cities down that carries that stuff.
Jeff. Thats the Tamiya panzer iiiL kit with a simple turret conversion piece from Hauler that was like $5 on luckymodel. I just cut the plastic kit barrel to shorten it following scale diagram.

ScenicExpress has "O" Scale beams in various lengths and sizes. O scale is the same as 1/48 so you might find more stuff searching the net.

Greg, I very much liked your diorama. It is realistic the situation is transferred. Very dynamically.

I was going to say this seems like a good diorama to focus on the building, and that's kind of what you just said a few comments back Greg. I was always impressed by the size of those factories as well, it's hard to show the scope of their enormity in 1/35 so it kind of gets lost in that scale. It would have been cool to have had a boiler or some kind of larger furnace somewhere in your dio to break things up a bit. I know it may have been unintentional, but I like how the turret ended up pointing to the side that had the tracks knocked out. The rusting on the I-beams looks dead on as well.

Greg,
Excellent job on the factory. The russian figures really came out well. Looking forward to Stalin's Tanks Campaign - it should be fun.
