WOW! I think this is actually quite stunning unto itself.
Really look forward to when you get around to "populating" this awesome work. Inspired to scratch-build a bridge myself now, Thanks for this John!

A campaign is a great idea. I'm already in. Took a break from engineering to paint up the first figure. Done in acrylics with some drawing ink washes and some pastel to finish.

The railroad tracks and the main decking have been added. Couldn't resist putting the M16 and the Dodge truck on the bridge just as a preview.

I hope you don't mind me showing another guy's work. I found this online and it looks like someone has had a similar idea. I do prefer yours in that the bridge is cut at both ends which truly forms an open vignette. That way you can really focus on the vehicles within and what is going on there.

If that train is moving the gunner had better not fire, otherwise at least SOME of those rounds are going to be coming back at him, OUCH!

This guy has done a nice job. It looks like he didn't finish painting the figures though. And I guess he has room for a 1:35 scale version.

Yes, this dio must be at least 36 inches long!

I think he did finish the figures they just have the same weathering as the flat car. I guess they were traveling thru a very dusty area before getting to the river???

Michael, Jeff Sonny and Greg I really appreciate your looking in and your kind comments. Looking forward to the fiddly bits.
So The rain here has lead to some good progress at the bench. Most of the main building is now done. This first photo is similar to the real photo at the start of this blog. The outside guard rail is only bluetacked on for the moment.

The deck just needs some final weathering.

This is where the engineers will be working.

And finally I gave my first figure a walk across.

SO now it's time for painting and more painting.

Hi

Great bridge! I love the weed on the waterline. What did you use for that?

Gentlemen thank you all for taking the time to comment on this blog. The weed at water level is simply some Woodland Scenics foliage with a heavy coating of Future to give it a wet look.
Well the main construction is now completed so I took it outside to get some daylight photos and to play around with Photoshop a little.

This photo shows the decking with its weathering.

This last photo is using my river as a backdrop.

Just the figures and vehicles to go.

Really like the weathering on the deck and moving it out doors with a real river in the background makes it look more than outstanding!

Michael and Dave Thanks for taking the time to post such kind comments.

Painting is moving along slowly. The Engineer's Dodge truck has had the basic painting completed. It is still glossy so next step will be a coat of matte varnish and some detailed weathering.

Figures next.

Found on the internet - they have almost replicated your dio in 1 : 1 scale. Don't have any idea where this is. The photo ID says Israel and nothing else.

It is the 'yad vashem transport memorial' in Jerusalem. Just google/bing for more info and pics.
