I really tried to keep it simple, but friends kept telling me about the shortcomings of the Revell kit so I had to do the modifications. I based the equipment rack on those of the PzIII Ms of schwere panzerabteilung 501 in Tunisia. I shall just be doing RAL 8000 overall, with some light weathering.

Paul, right, I remembered that you had mentioned doing the two colour camo for N Africa, and recalled that I had saved this page as a favourite on my phone when I was looking for the early war grey / brown scheme, and it lists those colours: Heer Vehicle Colors (1922-1945)
So just in case... though it sounds like your mind is settled on the matter.

Paul, I don't recall if I ever asked you this, but do you do the majority of your painting with airbrushing or hand brushing?

Hi Jeremy,

I normally airbrush basecoats, shading, camouflage and varnish. The rest is brush painted. I hope to have the basecoat on this weekend, I really need to finish this by next week to keep my original intention intact. I have found that this build has done exactly what I wanted, it has got me back into the modelling mode. Now to get some of the part finished stuff finished as well while I have the airbrush fired up.

Been checking on your progress, good to see you taking time with this build, appears you’re having fun Paul . . . thanks for the tip on forming the photo-etch bucket, one can never have enough tips under the sleeve!

Hi Everyone,

I have managed to put a base coat on my PzIII. It is supposed to be RAL8000, Gelbbraun, I had a colour chip from a website I forgot to bookmark and tried to replicate it. I realise that the colour representation on a computer screen is not that reliable, but I found that Tamyia Khaki is a close match to the colour. I mixed some Tamyia Dark Yellow in with it to produce a slightly lighter colour, which I felt would give a more scale effect. Anyway I am happy with the result.

I sprayed a dark brown pre-shade in those areas I felt would be noticeable and then sprayed the base colour. I added some Deck Tan to lighten the colour and misted the raised surfaces with it to produce some contrast. I will be doing some fine washes and a little dry-brushing to bring out the detail. I will also paint the tracks and running gear. So hopefully it will be fully painted by next week, I will be doing markings for the 10th Panzer Division, Tunisia.

Well that's it for now, I will try to get the detail and finishing touches done this week and then it is the decals and final details.

Just saw your Panzer III build, really nice looking work Paul! You and Bloodeye's Panzers are such inspirations! Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to some more updates!

Nice work Paul, I have four of those kits in my stash myself, so I'm keen on how yours turn out as well!

I'm (obviously) a fan of super-detailing and I like what you have done with it. I do not intent to purchase any additional PE for mine, but I have a few of those Voyager grill sets also.

As you, I make it a point to replace any barrels (MG and cannons) by metal version wherever I can. I'm convinced it makes for sturdier models when handling them and really looks a lot better.

Thank you for the kind comments, unfortunately I am laid up in bed after a bad flare up of a liver problem I have and there is a ban on any modelling for at least two weeks (my wife would kill me if I got up to do any!!!). Anyway next week should see me back in the saddle and get this little beast finished and based.

Those grille sets are amazing aren't they, I only have two left now and will be looking to order another set soon, have you seen their Tiger and King Tiger grilles? They are amazing as well.

I do use photo-etch, but have come to realise its limitations, with everything flat it isn't appropriate for some items.

I think it is a 'no-brainer' not to replace barrels with metal ones (where they are available) as they are so cheap. I think this one was 75p (1 Euro) which is worth it for the enhancement it gives the model.

Hi Everyone,

I have just checked and my last post on this forum was 25th November 2014! The reason for the hiatus was that in February of 2015 I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer and had to undergo several operations and hospital stays, needless to say it put a crimp in my modelling. I am still recovering, but much better and stronger. I have started modelling again and am getting up to speed. I dug out this old Build log as I just finished the tank and based it, I thought that some of you may be interested to see the result. Here are the photos...

Paul, I'm sorry to hear that you've had such serious health issues, I trust you are continuing to make good progress in your recovery. Modelling sure can be a therapeutic activity, so I hope it is providing an enjoyable focus for you.

So the PzKpfw III looks great, and good stuff with the figure with his headphone cabling and everything. Liking the paint work and the can rack at the back too.

Just one disappointment... In your photos I can't really see all that incredible work you did carving out the track guide horns with a scalpel!!!

Last year was a little traumatic, but it is behind me now and I am getting on with life, like you say, modelling is a big part of my recovery and I find it is a great therapeutic aid.

If you look carefully you can see glimpses of the hollow guide teeth in some of the photos, it is not necessary to hollow them out any more since OKB Grigorov have produced some stunning tracks with hollow guide horns. All my new models are shod with them.

No need for apologies and thank you for the nice comments. I am particularly fond of this model as it is the first totally finished model after my enforced lay off last year and I like the dusty look I managed to achieve (and probably never be able to replicate again , such is modelling).
