What guns are used out in the world today? Quite a few plastic and resin companies produce a multitude of 1/35 guns, but I don't know where to use them with what unit outside of the typical AKs, Dragonov SVD, and M-4/M-16s. Are the below list of guns exported outside of their national army usage? I know the Black Market carries a wide range of guns, but are the below guns in hot demand with non-Government forces?

For instance, where would these guns be found in foreign armies of the world today: militias, PMCs, SOFs, Government agents, rebels, warlords, etc.? Has anyone ever seen them used outside of the army they were assigned to?

* SR16
* G3
* AT-4
* FN FAL
* M-14
* G36
* M3 Grease Gun
* M60
* Dragon ATGM
* M-16A1
* MP5
* SA-7
* M72 LAW
* M-82A1
* M-40A1
* M203
* Colt 9mm SMG
* HK 53 5.56mm
* G8 Machine gun
* Israeli Galli outside of the IDF
* SA80 outside of UK
* PLA bullpup rifle
* M249 outside of U.S.

Any others often seen besides the AK and M-4/M-16A2? Thanks.

I would imagine your question stems from the M16A1 discussion. These guys still use it, although there's also a locally produced variant available to them it does not look like the traditional M16A1, and they prefer ours. They also carry the M1911A1.

There isnt a short answer to your question. Global arms aquisition, use and dispersion is a complicated discussion at best. Here are a few short comments:

* SR16- most likely law enforcement, pmc. Not do if there are mil buyers
* G3- mostly see these in photos of 3rd world conflict. No longer NATO use.
* AT-4- Very common amongst NATO/Coalition forces
* FN FAL- See G3 comments
* M-14- In use by US forces as a DMR. May be in use in 3rd world conflicts
* G36
* M3 Grease Gun
* M60- Still in widespread global military use
* Dragon ATGM- no longer use by US. Not sure about others
* M-16A1- still in many foreign Armys
* MP5- no idea
* SA-7- still in use with many militaries
* M72 LAW- still in use with many mmilitaries
* M-82A1 common use
* M-40A1 common use
* M203- common use
* Colt 9mm SMG- no idea
* HK 53 5.56mm- no idea
* G8 Machine gun- no idea
* Israeli Galli outside of the IDF- no idea
* SA80 outside of UK- no idea
* PLA bullpup rifle- no idea
* M249 outside of U.S.- many militaries use the 249 or a variant

Any others often seen besides the AK and M-4/M-16A2? Thanks.

Just where I have seen photos of these firearms OUTSIDE their country of origin or main user.

Quoted Text

* SR16- LE worldwide
* G3- Maybe Turkey, Mexico
* FN FAL- Mexico, 3rd world
* M-14- Previous answer was concise on this.
* G36- Spain uses them, I think the new Mexican rifle is some sort of G36 clone. Popular with LE worldwide
* M3 Grease Gun- Gotten into the stocks of most 3rd world/NATO client/Former NATO countries most likely right after WW2
* MP5- VERY popular with LE worldwide, you'll find at least one unit in almost every country of the world that has at least one floating around.
* SA-7- Probably used by mujihadeen fighters in Middle East and other hotspots against Soviet Union and later on against NATO
* M203- I've more commonly seen the 37mm flare launching knock-offs outside military use
* Colt 9mm SMG- Not many, but some LE, and 100% of bad '90s action flicks.
* HK 53 5.56mm- 3rd world, some police worldwide
* G8 Machine gun- By this you mean HK21? Spain, Mexico military and police may have some
* Israeli Galli outside of the IDF- IIRC, South African R-5 (R7? Someone will know) is based on Galil design
* PLA bullpup rifle- Possibly seen in Syria, another hotbed of interesting firearms
* M249 outside of U.S.- We (Canada) used a version dubbed the C9. Popular worldwide

Any others often seen besides the AK and M-4/M-16A2? Thanks.

I have a similar issue arising from the enthusiastic purchase of too many DML Quartermaster sets....

Try checking out MilitaryPhotos.net's Photo/Video section. They have threads on individual military, LE worldwide, and other less-common stuff like that. Make sure to browse some of the Mexico threads, particularly the seized guns one, and the Syria thread has a good display of the wide variety of firearms they've acquired.

Since I've nothing better to do... pics! Most of them found through MP.net's forum, no credit to me, I am just a lousy linker with nothing better to do.

* SR16
* G3

Turkey, possibly SOF

Kenya, along with an M-4 variant and a PKM. The guy center-right may have an FAL?
* AT-4
* FN FAL

India uses their own FAL version

Jamaica

Syria
* M-14
* G36

Spain
* M3 Grease Gun
* M60

On Colombian helicopter

Greece, a two-fer! M60 and MP-5SD
* Dragon ATGM
* M-16A1

Jamaica; outwardly looks like an A1, probably need better photos to tell for sure.

Lebanese soldier in Syria
* MP5

Thai Armed Forces, or possibly federal police unit.
* SA-7

African military (unknown country)
* M72 LAW
* M-82A1
* M-40A1
* M203

Turkey; M203 or look-alike mounted to HK rifle. Listed as Gendarmerie SOF
* Colt 9mm SMG
* HK 53 5.56mm

Turkey, some kind of variant at least. For someone more in the know about scopes; is that an NVG or thermal?

Full stock version in Thai Armed Forces

* Israeli Galli outside of the IDF

Colombia

Turkey
* SA80 outside of UK

Bolivia, also heard that Jamaica used them until 20 or so years ago.

Yes, I purchased a lot of "DML Quartermaster Kits" and don't know what to do with those weapons.

Rob, lol, also correct. I didn't want to hijack the "M-16A1s in Iraq" thread.

I think this could be a wake-up call to 1/35 resin figure makers...the 1/35 plastic and resin guns are there...but the figures to use them are not.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a photo from Lebanon in 1982 which shows a trailer style dumpster loaded with captured small arms. That's how I plan to dispense with a lot of unused weapons from different sets. That and the old Tamiya Merkava.

I think the question you should be asking is "I'm building "X" figs in "Y" conflict. What weapons would be appropriate?". I've seen photos of Vietcong using MP40's, MG34's (obviously donated by the USSR from the massive stocks of captured German weapons they held. There's also a pic of a US soldier going up some stairs with his own weapon slung, with a PPSH41 in Iraq which was obviously a captured weapon. If you look at something like Vienam the weapons that automatically spring to mind are Ak's, M14's, M16's. But then you could drop in M1's, Kar 98's, Thompsons, MP40's, SLR's, H&K G3's all evidenced in photographs. Do you see my point?

Well, I was thinking of a Black Market vignette of tables, a civilian vendor, and all these guns i have laid out on the tables. In front of the table would be a civilian buyer (agent) with some SOFs in the background hiding as backup. Now if only I could find 1/35 modern civilian figures...

Well G36 is in use with the German Bundeswehr as is the MP7

Some G3ZF / G3SG1 (markman/sniper version) are/where also used in Afghanistan by the Bundeswehr

The M203 lookalike under the G3 is likely the HK79 the underbarrel version of the HK69 "Grapi"

Thats a cool idea. My thought was to build a museum style arms display, with firearms from around the world displayed by type in glass cases. I was inspired by a large small arms exhibit as Base Borden, Ontario.

MBR; check out the 'ribbed for her pleasure' handguard. AFAIK the HK79 does not have that feature.
