Can pretty much rule out Trumpeter/Hobby Boss as well, because there would be line drawings/CAD photos of them already plastered on their FB page about it otherwise.

Meng? Sounds like something they'd do.

A new M2/M3 Bradley series from MENG would be most welcome.

Is MENG to become the new DRAGON..?

Let's hope they include the non-slip surfaces where applicable... And maybe BUSK. Bradley Urban Survival Kit, so we don't have to buy a crap load of resin or scratch build the commanders protective glass cupola. Hopefully. :

I would love to see more humvees from Tamiya. If Dragon would scale up their
1/72nd scale humvees they would have some great kits.

And rightly so! They are a GERMAN company(1) so they should do GERMAN vehicles:

Iltis
Unimog 404
HS-30
Hotchkiss

No problem with German types, but.................
Since their policy seems to be that they produce for the average modeler for an affordable price (which is absolutely legal for a business )one may wonder if the quality is what modelers, who visit this site more than once a day, , want???
Furthermore, Revell models are only available for rather short periods, being less of interest for companies, which make update sets. ( I used over two years to find an MAN 5t truck )

But back to the first message: hopefully, Tamiya takes all the trouble needed to upgrade their earlier releases. Let's be fair: as they started, we were very much happy, unaware of the very high standards we would reach years later. Many of us still remember the small battery motors and rubber band tracks!!!
I guess it would not take too much to incorporate etch sets for super detailing.

TAMIYA is already adding ABER PE to some of their 1/35 Armor- They are also charging up to THREE TIMES the price of the original kits' cost! How stupid does TAMIYA think we are?

I admit that I take a "looks resonably like the original" kit in Styrene for (often considerably) less than 50€ for a "perfect" kit in resin for more than 100€ any time. Same for "builds well, good instructions" over "1000 fiddly lil parts and guess where the part goes instructions". Even if the latter model is "perfect"

There is an area where new/more detailed really is better in mine eyes and the old gets the boot (Tamiya Duster vs. AFV Club Duster) but in other models new is just "more complications than I like in a hobby".

Three times the original price? Sounds like a bargain. If only gas, cars, beer, motorcycles and hookers were only three times what they were back in the day...

As for BUSK III - yes. Although I'm not sure how you'll see most of. However I did photograph the fuel cell the TC stands on. The turret survivability system consists of steel blocks inside the turret bustle that you won't even see either. I did take some very nice shots of the new driver's seat. The mounting system for the troop seats appear new as well, although I think that's an older mod.

Ralking about AFV Club and "future" releases.... Did anyone of the older ones remember the first catalog in 1992/93 or 94? They announced the M109 (vantruck) as coming soon...
Now 20 years ago!!!
Talking about Revell... Heard rumors that they work close with German defense companies. AGF SERVAL anyone?

I was referring to TAMIYA kits such as their 1/35 Russian T-55, IS-2, ISU-152, Hetzer and a few others. These kits are not that old, and I don't think that they're "loss-leaders" since they're pretty popular with modellers. The original releases, at least for some of us, were affordable at prices in the $35-$50 neighborhood. With the addition of the ABER PE sets, those prices have escalated to well over $100...

I don't know about you, but I refuse to plunk down $139 or so for a kit that I can buy for about $35 + another $20 or so for a PE set... It is in this respect that companies like BRONCO, HOBBY BOSS, TRUMPETER, MENG, yes, even DRAGON far outshine TAMIYA...

I think that's a bit of stretch when discussing Tamiya prices, usually they quote full MSRP on their ads, but the reality is very different. These prices are not charged by and large in most hobby outlets we have access too.

For example the T-55 with Aber Basic PE set AND metal barrel can be found at HLJ for $46, and on ebay in the $60-75 range, at Tower Hobbies for $87 and Squadron for $105. Some smart shopping and you can get the best kit on the market (for now) with excellent upgrades for the same or less than buying them separately, which is on the cheaper end is around $70 all together. If you are looking to pay $139, you've not done your homework properly.

I've seen the Enigma for $37 at HLJ and the M1 TUSK II for under $50 as well, given the options in plastic and resin for those two subjects, again great prices for top kits. Same with the Tamiya airbrushes (the SF is a personal fav) and compressors, you can usually find them easily on Amazon retailers for well under 50% of listed MSRP. This is just Tamiya's way of price listing, always been the case. Most Tamiya hobby retailers can severely undercut those MSRP prices, easily.

Best,

Mike

The prices I quoted were seen on evilBay- Maybe I'm buying my models on the wrong website..? There are NO hobby shops in my area, which is very rural. Nearest hobby shops is about a 110-mile round trip, so I'm forced to do all my buying on line... HLJ, huh? Got a web-address?

Just to put a fly into the ointment for modellers here in the UK,i ordered the Gundam Type 61 Main Battle Tank from HLJ and got stitched up by Customs And Excise.
The B@$!?£* charged half as much again in import duty (sorry for the profanity) as the kit cost !.

To be honest I still like building "certain" TAMIYA kits because they still have an edge even if being less complicated due to not containing 400+ parts.
The LEOPARD 2A5/6 and the LECLREC are still some of the best "balanced" kits (quality, detail, price) I can think of. But paying 70€ for a basic JAGDTIGER kit is excessive when compared to the same kits from DRAGON ... same with the M1A1/A2 with no real improvement of the 10 years+ basic kit ... why not sell the TUSK-Package separately for 25$/€ what ever.
I get the feeling that the price gap between standard plastic kits and resin/AM kits is closing rapidly ... even PE sets are getting more and more costly, although I don't want to argued the sense of folding a complete TUSK set in PE.
Our hobby is getting more and more expensive and although I am in the favourable situation not needing flip every penny my tendency is building excellent resin kits like the BÜFFEL3 from PSM because everything you need is there or
AFV Club with there M109s leaving very less desires for add-ons with their basic offer.
So at the moment TAMIYA has very little to offer me in most respects .... unless they would finally make a proper LEOPARD 2A4

Cheers
