Are MOLLE and their 1 qt. canteens still used? I read reports that soldiers don't like using them because of the sloshing of water inside may give away their positions. But BlackHawk Down emphasized that water should be carried no matter what the mission.
Then again, someone told me with air and vehicle support, soldiers don't normally carry water with them since the vehicle carries it closeby. Water is normally carried only on long range patrols or recon. If 30 minutes out, water is not normally packed with soldiers.
So for today's figures, should Camelbak and canteens be added, or just replace them with pouches? I'm kitbashing a figure that doesn't have Camelbak straps. The best I could do is add a MOLLE canteen, if that's the common practice. Thanks.

US units still have MOLLE canteen holders and 1 quart canteens as standard issue. Camelbaks are also standard issue. Each of the Soldiers in my Infantry Battalion is issued 2 one quart canteens and a Camelbak.
On a side note, the MOLLE canteen pouches can also be used as a 'general purpose' storage pouch.

Danish units are still carrying the standard canteen as well as camelback.
I wouldn't be happy with the camelback during winter exercise... But turning the canteen up-side down, you will always have fresh cold water.
