Hi All
Need a little help/opinion/feedback.

A friend has given me the Achtung Jabo figures to paint as a sort of commission.
He is wanting to put them into a diorama set in France post D-Day.

My question is what combination of uniforms can I get away with.

I don't want have them in all black.

Ideas

Hey Chris,

A lot depends on how they're going to be used in the diorama.

Which type of afv (panzer of assualt gun), are they Heer or WaffenSS etc. The uniforms (and I'm sure you'll get much better advice) can run the gambit of black to reed green/grey fatigues to camoflaged pea dot or even Italian camo cloth depending on the unit. And of course mixed and matched varients of the above weren't uncommon.

Google panzer crews or even Normandy battles and you should pull up some pics to give you some ideas. Hope this helps a little ....

Yes, you need to establish the setting of the figures, before a relevant answer can be constructed.

If I recall the kit correctly, they are wearing the reed green version of uniform for summer wear and there is then only one option.
On another point, this set is really really nicely sculpted.

thanks for the replies guys.
Brent:Me and google don't have the best of relationships when it comes to searching out uniform info, there must be a trick to it but I've yet to discover it.I'm either to specific or not specific enough.

Jerry:I'll bow to your expertise on this, but I'd like to include a couple privately purchased items, just to break up the monotony.

Cheers

Well, there was a lot of Italian cammo cloth available to the 1SS PzKorp guys in 1 and 12SSPzDv and certainly is a lot of photoes of same. On the regular Heer side I have seen items made of splinter pattern shelter quarter material as well. I would rule out black though as the patterns on these figs are for the reed green uniforms and the black panzer wraps were cut differently.

Hey Chris,

lol yeah my Googlefu ain't the best either at times!

On the reed green uniforms it appears in most photos to be various shades (within the same picture/crew group) so that would indicate quite a variation in how it fades. Ones I've seen range down to almost light green/greyish. So you've got a bit of colour to play with.

You could also mix in a couple of variatons of colours into the M43 field caps they're wearing also. Desert veterns liked the faded M43 and it must have been prize loot as I've seen it in some SS crew pics also.

cheers
Brent

(ps nice to see another kiwi)

As the others have said, these figures are wearing the Reed Green Panzer Denims. The most noticeable feature of this uniform is the large patch pocket on the left breast, which makes it instantly identifiable in photos. Your best bet for painting is to follow the box art, as it's by Ron Volstad whose research is excellent. This item of clothing was also popular with armoured car and Panzerjager crews for obvious reasons.

Once again
Thanks guys.
Reed green it is.
I'll be adding a couple of Hornet heads so I can add a bit of colour on the caps.

Jerry: thanks for you input.

Brent:We Kiwis are a small bunch but vocal bunch and you know what they say,

God made some people perfect and put them in NZ the rest he called Aussies.
