Hello everyone,

I am just working on my new project, Chinese PLA ZTZ-99A1 from Bronco, in 1/35 scale.

Model is excellent, the parts go together without no problems. Everything was done OOB, no extra PE.

For now, after gluing (I killed myself with their track) and the layer of black primer, came the first layer of paint, Sand yellow (H79).

I left the color to dry well for 24 hours.

What you can see on the pictures, masking, (sorry for the bad quality, they are taken at dark) I worked about 7 hours. Masking only yellow parts of camouflage! And the rest is still light green and olive green.

Digital camouflage looks really interesting, but you need to have miles and miles of masking tape and nerves. And good pictures.

To make things complicated information sources about ZTZ-99 are totally confusing.
From the first look at all pictures of ZTZ-99, they look the same, but there are some differences. Colour guide from Bronco and Hobbyboss are more or less wrong. Do not buy airbrush camo-mask from JS Work. It is pointless!
So I tried to do as much as I can see on original images. With my Tamiya tape ...
But some parts on tank can not bee seen (rear end, under turret ...).

Only part where I followed colour guide is top of the tank in Hobbyboss model. Colour guide from Bronco does not give any suggestion!!!! Plus image from 60th Anniversary of the China National Day Parade.

So much for now. Tomorrow I will paint light green.

You think on this Indian T-90? According to this indian tank my chinese camouflage is a joke.

Looking good so far with the Chinese digital camo. That stuff looks so cool.

I love that Indian camo, too. I always wanted to try to do that on a T-72. Maybe I'll do a T-90 instead...

I thought I wanted to do the Chinese PLA ZTZ99B, as I like the camo. Now, I find that I have to do a T90 in Indian service.

You are doing an excellent job on the digital camo. Please, keep us up to date.

Finally.

It's over with masking. Follows the main color, olive green.

There are still some little things to fix, but I'm going to do that before painting.

I'm sorry for the bad images.

Done, masks are removed.

I was initially very disappointed with olive drab and dark green. But now when I look at pictures it seems ok.

There are small errors, where the masks are slightly raised and the color came slightly below. Not a problem, I just need a little paint, brush and good will to solve it.

I'm impressed. I've seen digital camo done before but never had the guts to try it.

btw, in the reference photo you posted...why does the tank have white walls? Is China back in the 50s?

If you think on white edges of the wheels, this is practice in display tanks in some ceremonies, anniversaries, the days of victory ... Everyone's doing it, the Russians, Chinese, Koreans ...

I just attempted digital camo, on a practice kit. I truly admire your patience and determination. I'm thinking Tamiya tape may be the way to go for digital camo. I would have become frustrated long before the paint. The masking is absolutely nerve wracking. Your camo looks perfect.

Thanks for the support guys.
Gary freely use my pictures, I tried to at least 95% that camo match with the real tank.
