Anyone used this product? I noticed serious errors with the patterns as compared to the real thing.
Also, as I wouldn't follow their instructions of painting the dark colors first, I wanted to use the mask as a template to draw out the pattern on the tank...Then spray the light colors, mask, then followed by darker colors....but it's wrong wrong wrong!!!
Did I become dumb suddenly...? Too long away from the forum...? Or is anyone else facing the same issues???

I'm listening for an answer as well. I was interested in buying this mask also. As far as the pattern...no two tanks are EXACTLY alike. Is the pattern that far off? I always spray the green first....entire piece and then do my black and brown over the green. Factory painting of the Abrams (with the exception of the Sand A2's) is done this way anyway.

Yup, the pattern seems too long for various areas, too sharp at certain corners and way off for the left side skirt. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I doubt.
I build 2 camo tanks before, sprayed free hand then, but I wanted to used the mask to take advantage of the paint build up along the edges which will aid in the heavy sand weathering. Otherwise I'd have to literally paint the edges and add pigments.

Good to see you posting again, Nick.
I have no experience with the mask you're talking about, but I'd say if it doesn't look right to you, don't use it. I like to enlarge the schemes that come in the instructions (provided that they are correct) and cut them up into their different color sections. I start with one color, usually black because I'm lazy and can shoot it from a rattle can. Then I mask off the black areas and spray the second color. I like to keep the mask elevated very slightly from the model with putty or even little balls of tape. After that I mask again and spray the third color.
I know what you mean about those sand colors edges on the cammo. The first time I saw it I thought it was a new four color scheme. I think the best way to replicate it is with a very fine spray of sand. I'd like to see your result. I've always wanted to try it but have never gotten around to it.
Here's the result on a Paladin:

Hey Robert, good to see more of your work..looks great to me!
Yup I've spent the last year squaring things up finally and working on some really interesting other stuff (I will contact you in a couple days)..and can finally get back to regular posting end year.
Yeah the sand edges look really weird, and that's what I got to depict with my M1s. Thanks for the advise on the templates..heck I never thought of "lifting" the masks....sheesh!

Robots paint these things at the factory. The threshold for error is something like 3 cm. The whole point is for them to be so similar they can't be identified by their paint.
I don't know about reprinting at the depot level though but I know it's only done when there's a major overhaul and it's absolutely necessary.

Just a quick update..I gave up with J's Mask and decided to make my own reusable stencils. I've finished 90% of the green and black colors and am left with the brown and some touch ups near fragile parts that I don't want to depressed the mask onto.
I will post pics once I'm done with the full camo.
Thanks for all your input.

I had enough of trying to figure out Jay's camo masks so I made my own, here's some of the many required!
They're on cardstock and later I may transfer them to another material for my many many M1 builds!

Still looking forward to your final result.
If you do those templates on styrene cardstock, you can actually build a box for the hull. Place it over the hull, and simply spray through. You'll need two boxes for the hull (one for each color after the base) and two for the turret. Trust me, it works if you have to do multiples.

THANKS!
