Hi Guys
Some quick pictures that I took tonight. I just have to tidy up a few things and add the flag. It is hand painted so I have to wait until tomorrow ´till its dry. All comments, points of view and critic welcome!
All pictures so far are in my gallery which can be seen here !

I like!
What did you make the sandbags from? They look pretty good and natural. I also like the empty shell casings scattered about -- this is a detail lots of people miss when doing an artillery position.

Hi Bob. Thanks for the comliment. the sand bags are made from milliput. I used the method as described by roadkill on his homepage. Very simple and great results for the first time to use it! There is more information about this in the earlier two threads

It looks excellent but I have a question. Is that suppoed to be a gun that has blown up or what? I'm not familiar with German equipment and it seems to be missing an actual gun.

Sweet dio, you make those DML figures look like resin figures!!! That's a really nice job. I especilly like the Zeltbahn on the guy from the Aachen set, very well done. Overall a very nice looking dio showing something a little different (the German medics). Can't be much left to do, but I'm looking forward to the end result.

Frank:
This thread has only been up part of a day, and I've already come back to look at the pics three different times-----A Stunner!!!
There are so many small things that are so well done in this scene---the eye has plenty here to keep it busy. The beautiful job on the trench coat and boots on the medical fig striding away from the vehicle, the different textures in the scene, i.e. the bricks, sandbags, wood shack and debris, the shadows and details on the faces---the list goes on.
A winner--this one is a winner. Wow!!!!
Congrats!!!!
Steve

Great diorama. A lot of action in a small area. You make me want to throw in the towel.

Thought they looked familiar ... feel kinda stupid or old now.
But on a serious note (not really), I've done Milliput sand bags a few times on vehicles and dios, but never that many! Yow, you must have spent a small fortune on Milliput!
For future dios (or for those attempting a project as big or bigger than Plasticbattle's), you might want to try plumber's putty -- it works the same as Milliput, has a little coarser texture, and otherwise is about the same for taking paint, etc.
Again, Germans are not my forte, but I like this little dio!

very good...very good..very good. I liked everthing here. Is this an Italeri kubelwagen? no interior door handles makes me think it is Italeri.(this is not a critic ) if it is the italeri kit congratulations for the extra fuel can storage. It looks great.
I agree Nate about you make DML figures look like resin figures and this is one of the best Zeltbahn camo paint in 1:35 figures i have ever seen.

PB,
Excellent modeling dude !!!
When I saw the first "in progress pics" it looked cool, but for some reason or another they didn't attract me as much as other dio's did....don't know why.
But now....I think it's one of the better dioramas I've seen in 2003. Excellent detailing, painting, weathering and LAY-OUT !!!! Most dioramas are ok, but are a little "so-so" as it comes to the lay-out. This dio has it all.....depth, detail, atmosphere.... it really guides the eyes from one spot to another.
Great composition and great modeling !!
If you could send me the pics when it's finished, I would love to publish an on display feature on this one !!

Plasticbattle, I have to agree with all the other posts here, this is a very fine piece of work. You have managed to cram a lot of action into a small space and it all just seems to fit so well. The composition is superb - there is action without it being frenetic and it is the little details that make it stand out, ie the sandbags, the tree, even the radio in its station.
Very well done indeed! :-)

Very nice diorama,PB.
Did something blow up there to injure those individuls? I would add some damaged stuff to show the effects of an explosion. Also if the base was bigger, you could swap out the Kuble and build a SdKfz 251 Crankenwagen. (++) (++) (++) (++) (++) (++) (++) piggies.

WOw, I thought it looked good before, but the addition of the figures really ties it all together. The overall layout tells a interesting story but the attention to detail makes it jump off the screen. The sand bags are great, the extra bits like the shell casings and fallen rifles add a ton of realism. EXCELLENT work! I hope the others won't throw in the towel but be inspired by your efforts.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your very kind comments. Im very happy with this dio, and have sort of been rejuvenated again by the praise. Cheers. I will try to clear up some of the questions raised in this thread in this one post without naming names!
Wipes on the windscreen. Not sure what you mean ... the wipers are there as are clean tracks where the wipers have wiped. It has recieved a little over spray of a matt cote but this is not as visable in reality. Good call on the hole on the bottom of the Jerry can.... I fixed this with a little pastels.
The gun used is a 75mm infantry howitzer. This is how it looks. I think Italeri have a plastic version. This s verlinden one. Dont know much more about it myself.
I used 1 full box of milliput grey (the cheaper stuff) and a half box of milliput fine (the expensive stuff) as i ran out. I actually believe the cheaper stuff was easier to work with and gave a better texture as well. S0 1.5 boxes of cheap stuff would be about $7 dollars here in sweden, about the same price as Italeri or tamiyas sandbag set. I dont think it was too bad. But I agree, for the likes as this a cheap variant would do, but I didnt have the time to search and I had the milliput at home anyway.
Please guys throw no towels in now. Look at the dios from this years Euromilitaire that Jimbrae has posted .... and then throw the towel in, beside mines #:-)
It is indeed the italeri Kubelwagen. At first thats why I decided to use the hood up, to hide the lack of detail. But it worked well with the addition of the decal on the hood (taken from Italeri willys ambulance jeep). I added glue and tissue to the seats and hood and painted with oils for the leather look(the seats). Not really visable but great experience for the next time. The petrol can on the side was an idea from a Military modelcraft international magazine on a 1/16 kubel build. I guess Im getting braver and trying out simple scratching. One must start somewhere!!!
Eagle: I have "pm"ed you and would love to have this a feature.
The wall is damaged! Eventhough this is part of the cover-up campaign, it also was a build for a Keith Magee product, for his site. The base is one of his range, called "the alley" so i didnt want to add too much debris to cover up any more of the base than what I needed, and my skill of building demolished vehicles is "not up to scratch". So a mortar or something hit the wall and the gun crew got hit with flying debris. There are some bits of bricks laying around and the crew have only minor injuries, as all are still alive .... well thats my side of the story anyway :-) . Dont even know what a SdKfz 251 Crankenwagen is??
The blood is actually more a of a brown colour in reality. The picture were taken under several bulb lights. Im not 100% convinced with the blood effect either, but it was my first time painting blood, and hopefully it will be better.
Once again guys. Its humbling to get so much praise, but also re-assuring. Hopefully this will push me on to go a step better each time. Thanks once again for taking the time to post and I appreciate all the comments and critic. Each comment is appreciated as I have tried to do something to improve on it. With all your help, it can only get better.
One extra comment was made on the Stockholm IPMS site that the helmets werent weathered. I completely forgot. As I was so busy asembling after painting I just aded the helmets, so its back on the bench again for some weathering and more photographs.
here are a few with the flag added ........ for the campaign and more complete pictures will be in the upcoming feature.

Impresive Plasticbattle :-)
The positions and attitude of the figures are very natural. I like it a lot.
What brand are the figures ?

I can really feel the action happening here!I can almost feel the pain of the wounded guy on the ground. The flag is nice too.
What are your thoughts on the DML helmets? The lip around the edge of the helmet is rather inaccurate. I was burned with these helmets on another one of their kits. Generally I'm pleased with their products ut these helmets aren;t doing it for me. I think with some time and some careful sanding they could be recovered. Too harsh?
