Well, it's been a while since I posted anything new but I have finally finished my attempt at a cold cold looking diorama. Hope you like it.
Diorama represents elements of the armoured reconnaissance battalion of an SS Heavy Panzer Battalion. Time frame is early Jan 1945 along the Bastogne corridor. Recon is attempting to exploit gaps in the flanks. While taking a short break to check bearings the surviving members of a tank crew have found them and some much needed help.
223 built OOB with the exception of some ad on stowage items. Painted with Tamiya acrylics and finished using the harispray method. Weathered with washes, pigments and Tamiya snow effects.
Schwimmwagen has numerous resin accessories including wheels, spare tire, and Black Dog stowage.
BMW modified with brake lines and wiring.
Various figure used including Evolution Miniature, Mantis etc.
All figures painted with Vallejo Acrylics and artists oils for flesh.
MiniArt Wall used for base along with a lot of micro balloons. I put the background upside down to try simulate ice fog at ground level but it didn't turn out like I had hoped.
Now for the pics. Hope you enjoy them.
Cheers

The figures are superb! As far as the vehicles go, the motorcycle steals the show.

I agree, great job and especially on the figures.
I give you figure painters a lot of credit to make something so small look so damn good!
What was your painting method for the oar on the schwimmwagen?, looks great!

This is inspired! You can almost see the icy wind blowing. There is just so much in this diorama to inspire from the perfect interaction of the figures to the brilliant painting of figures and vehicles. More, more!

Excellent diorama. The snow looks great, the weathering, stowage and figures are superbly done. The two guys on the motorcycle steal the show - outstanding job. The German tanker with the trail of blood is a nice touch. Great diorama, you can almost feel the cold.

Nice job on the groundwork and vehicles. The figures are all done very very well and have great interaction-you positioned them all to make perfect sense.
Very few WSS guys had the winter combat suits in the ardennes though. Your guys look more like the time frame of Karkov.
Maybe just change the scenerio to the east front? Minor detail,as it all looks very nice.

Thanks for the comments everyone. They are much appreciated.
John - I painted the oar with Vallejo 70819 Iraquian Sand, then a light coat of Burnt Sienna oil. While it was still wet I followed that up with wiping it down with a make-up sponge to remove almost all the oil paint. Lastly I dragged a splayed brush down it to give the impression of wood grain. Cheers!

Ty - this diorama sure captures the cold! really remarkable...i think your rigorous follow through with the snow detail pushes this over the top. I've looked at your pictures several times since you posted and concluded that the subtle (in addiiton to really nice work!)makes a big difference - snow under fenders, in small spaces/crevaces -nice work.
cheers
