I'm calling this one done. An excellent kit of a different subject. Very fun build.

Hope you like.

The IDF paint was a custom mix, oil washes and Vallejo pigments for weathering.

Spankin' good! The dried mud/dirt on the blade and ripper look especially nice.

Hi Jeff,

Outstanding build, with very natural and realistic mud/sand work on the blade and tracks.

I hope you font mind me asking, but what was your custom paint mix for the IDF exterior colour, it looks spot on.

King regards,

Chris.

Thanks Chris.

I used Tamiya's formula of a 1:1 mix of XF-49 & XF-66 as per their Tiran 5 instructions.

Looks very good. I hope to build this same kit soon. The weathering is great too.

Nice job! I am curious about one thing, though. This is the second one of these I've seen with this paint scheme. Is painting the grab handles an Israeli thing? I worked on heavy equipment for almost 20 years here in the US and don't know if I ever remember running into a piece of equipment painted like that.

I think it is. At least the Meng instructions call it out as such. I know you can build a USMC version from the kit and the color on that is all Desert Tan with no highlighting of the grab handles. I've seen pictures of other IDF armor subjects with red handles (IIRC is was some of their APC's).

Let me answer the painted handles question the IDF has since the 60 s painted grab hanhles and grease nipples on tanks afv red to help in there location under grime and mud or in the heat of battle.

Thanks for the reply Jeff, and the further clarification, Oliver. I thought that might be the case.

Jeff,
You did a fine job on this. I like the overall clean look of the vehicle. Weathering can be difficult to avoid at the end of a project. However, real nice dried mud on the blade. Good photography and lighting, the clean windows of the cabin really draw the eye.

Absolutely amazing build and a fascinating subject to boot!
After looking at your build and reading a few reviews I bought one today off Evilbay.
