I've had white ones issued. Worth their weight in gold when you really need them.

Coming along very nicely, Keith!
I really like the scratch-built snowshoes and the fur trim around the hoods came out quite well. The skis and poles add a nice touch, too.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the progress in person next week.
Happy modeling!

A small step forwards with the completion of the right side set of 'Fruil' early Scorpion tracks.
Test fitting.
The last 'Pin' has been left long intentionally so the tracks can be taken off for painting and weathering.
A small amount of articulation is visible here as it sits on a proposed base.
Once the other side is completely assembled I will feel like I am making real progress..
The top 'sag' looks just about right.

Looking good. I built the tracks for my Scorpion and I know the work involved to get them right... although Fiuls are great, definitely a major improvement over the tracks supplied with the kit, they are a pain to assemble.
Looking forward to seeing the complete setting.

Yes indeed, they made my finger tips quite sore. The ends of the links are very soft as well so once they are fitted for the last time each one will require a close look and possibly a tweak to ensure they are correct and not bent.
I am also looking forward to getting the base sorted out.

I had to do yardwork (gardening) over the weekend, you know edging, mowing and raking etc. so I only managed a couple of hours of (model) shed time.
But one side of tracks painted and installed, so one down and one to go.

Lovely job so far Keith, nice to see one in winter camo. Funny thing I spent most of yesterdy evening doing Fruilmodel tracks for my SCimitar 2 and my fingertips are STILL tender I find it quite relaxing though, sit in front of the TV with everything on a tray on my lap and just do it...
That Scimitar with the snowplough blade - wow, what an interesting idea!!! Beats trying to do more bleeding bar armour!

Looking good, Keith!
I think the hard work and effort doing the tracks is really paying off - the finished side really has that natural sagging track look to it.
As always, I'm following with great interest and anticipation to see how it all turns out!

Dave, sadly I am not going this year as other items are ongoing that require I stay here.
No worries though, I expect you, Mike and the others to behave yourselves and bring home the Trophies.
I look foreward to seeing all of you next week at the AMPS meeting.
Thank's for the input on this build, it has been interesting and memory searching

Well after a short vacation and a lot of yard work I managed a couple of hours 'shed time'.
A small update.
With BOTH sets of tracks now on and finished I produced a smaller base and hot glued some cut Styrofoam to it and covered it with a base coat of plaster of paris and some 'Woodland Scenics' snow effect.
The base was masked off in order to preserve the darker stained edges and an area in the front for the description plate.
Somewhere in my stash I have one of the original Enamel and metal AMF badge mounted on a Black leather background. We were not issued with these as they were designed to worn hanging from a breast pocket button.
Somehow one was 'inadvertantly' given to me by someone in the QM stores....
I hope to mount it on the front of the base.
Keith.

A little more snow and a second coat of White added to the base and then the masking tape was removed.
A couple of minor 'bleed through' spots showing but they can be taken care of quite easily. The description plate will fill the large square in the front.
A metal power tower is under construction and I have some very small trees that will show poking up through the snow to add interest.

Keith, I really like your revised base and the smaller and tighter composition. I think it will setoff the vehicle much better with fewer surrounding elements to attract the viewer's attention away from the AFV.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the final bits for your base all come together.

Thank's for that Mike and I have to agree with you.
Added a communications tower and a little Greenery. All will receive a dusting of snow and a few icicles hanging from the tower and possibly the vehicle mudflaps.
I hope to get some painting done this weekend as well as the snow.

And so I am now starting the last leg of this project, or at least close to it.
Here you can see the Scorpion is in place and some weathering, snow and icicles have been added.
A small power box has been placed at the base of the comm's tower and a conduit from underground connected as well as wind driven snow and rust applied to the tower.
I will redo some of the wheels as soon as the snow mixture hardens and back it off a little (not happy with the result at this time).
It is possible to see the ice I made, hanging from the mudflaps.
Right side view of the snow and ice on the small trees and vehicle.
Once I am happy with the look I will work on the AMF(L) badge and info plate.

Well we are just about there methinks.
I painted the base in our regimental Stable Belt tradition (colors) and added some slush/melted ice behind the mudflaps and vehicle.
You can also see some slush where it has dripped on the ground under the fron flaps as we;;.
just some minor tweeking and the info plate and it's done.
Thank's for following along and I will conclude this build when the award shop has made the info plate for me and I have the badges ready.

Very nice build.
What is the approximate length of your vehicle antennas?
The tow rope lashings - what other choices did you consider to represent the lashing?

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I think the ends of kinetic tow ropes are wowen together and not tied using lashes? Can't seem to find the photo at the moment...

I really like the bit of color that the "Stable Belt traditions" adds to the display.
I also think the extra slush and snow added into the track marks is another good addition.
Looking forward to getting a first-hand look at this soon.
