Hi everyone,

I'm building the Dragon/Italeri StuG III B (both brands are on the box, I am a little bit confused!)

The box cover depicts a binocular telescope, which is included in the kit, but the instructions depict using a periscope instead, and this is also included in the kit.

Does anyone know which pieces should be used and why? Or were they largely interchangeable in the field?

Thanks

The periscope was part of the gunner's sight. The double "scissors" telescope was for the commander and only be mounted if he had need for spying distant scenes/objects. There was no combat usage of the scissors telescope.

So, the periscope would be used in all combat situations, but the scissors would be used in transit?

Thanks

Hello,
I'm just finishing this model and I have not used this part because I've seen on many photos that are not exposed to the outside, but I'm going to put two figures in the hatches. Model cool just need to be careful when installing because it was easy to make a mistake, not everything fits as it should.

The periscope is tied directly into the aiming system. Where ever it looks, the gun points. As Roy mentioned the scissors scope was used by the commander. Other than sticking his head out of the hatch, it was his only way to view what was going on outside the tank (proving mighty helpful in areas where snipers might be present).

So it's a case of being depicted in correctly on the box art.

Awesome guys, thanks very much

This kit, it's okay, but there are a couple of problems. Firstly I was amazed at the amount of flash, but that is an easy fix.

The major problem however, is the fact that the return rollers or the drive sprocket just refuse to stick to the vehicle body!!!! Grr!

What's the kit number?

You may need to wash the parts first. There may be a film of the mold release agent. Or, you try roughing up the plastic a bit before gluing.

Italeri No 283

Not sure what part of the kit is Dragon, but their logo is on the box as well.

Yes, it is that exact kit.

I'm quite happy with it, the flash was easy to clean and the rest of it fits nicely with no issue.

It's just the running gear!

On the contrary, I bought this model probably in the 90s.

@John

Model consists of fine, but my copy was damaged at the factory and because some parts did not fit. Entire after taking judge him favorably.

Look at the PE fret, is the Italeri logo on it? Check the plastic sprues , is the Dragon logo on it?
I bought this Panther kit. The actual plastic sprues had Dragon on them, the PE fret had the Italeri logo on them.
