Hi. Was glancing through one of the new books on OIF at the local book store the other day and ran across a photo that shows a trooper walking along with a .50 cal. sniper rifle slung under his arm. Wasn't a real good photo if it, but it was a Barrett and it was one of their clip feed models for sure. And it had what I would guess to be maybe a 12x scope on it, as it wasn't really that big. Of course compared to the gun's size, the scope could have been a lot bigger than it appeared. Now wouldn't this be a nice thing for the model-makers to include in one of their OIF accessory packs to lay up on a Bradley, M113, or even an Abrams, just for something different and interesting to add, along with all the baggage their making? Just a thought.
Take care, sgrity

Yeah. I could not forget the history of this amazing weapon. How resourceful Roland Barrett was when he built it. He sure is a genius. They later came up with a bolt-action a2.
Pretty soon, other .50 cal sniper rifles began to come out. The Haskins is bound to give the Barrett stiff competition. Its only drawback is it's a one-shot weapon.

Not to be too critical here, but the night scope in the DML M-16/ AR-15 is a first generation Vietnam Starlight scope. It's big, heavy, and downright poor in performance and battery life. It has long been shelved way back in the 1980s.
Night vision technology is up to Generation IV now.
The rifle scope you need is the one from DML's SBS set. That's a GEN III scope. Compare that size to the one in the DML M-16/ AR-15 set and you'll see how small the modern SBS one is. It's not THE most modern night rifle scope, but it'll do for Y2K and is still used today.
The night scope in the DML HK set must be a NATO brand. NATO scopes are often GEN II and GEN III and not as good as U.S. ones.
The conventional Marines carry the M-82A1 as photos in Liberia show.

Something interesting to note about the Barret. Unconventional forces here in Iraq have made a large use of civilian pickup trucks. At a fuel point at BIAP I saw a Toyota 4x4 with a roll-bar mounted in the bed. Centered on the roll bar was some sort of field added weapon mount. Mounted on that was a semi-auto version of the Barrett. Man that thing sure is long. I tried to get a photo of the weapon on the mount but the SF guys weren't feeling to photogenic that day. Big surprise huh? Oh, well. Better luck next time.

Yes. Soldier of Fortune said in Afghanistan and Iraq, replacing the M240 or M249 on the pickup rollbar with a M82A1 Barrett is a lot better for precision long-range shots.
Correction: I think the SBS night vision scope could be NATO design. But since most night scopes all look the same, it's passable. Just don't mount the AN/PNS-2 from DML's M-16 set on the Barrett. That's mating 1960s technology with a 1990s sniper rifle.
Below is some info about night scope Generations. Even the day telescope on the M-82A1 Barrett could pass as a night scope with a few modifications.
