Sorry but I can't help you with that Conrad. That is one of those angles that isn't ever really clearly in a photo.

Very nice work, i myself am about to embark on building this kit, however after going through the instructions, the belly armour plates appear to come in 2 pieces, the sloped frontal bit for the lower glacis and the long rectangular piece that goes below the tank,just wondering if in reality these are 2 separate pieces or is it one single continuous piece that is fixed to the tank via the towing points. Can someone help me here? I've looked on the net but can't seem to find any reference of the area in question.

Hi guys,
New update. The model got a filter, a wash and did the pin washing.
With this done I can start to add the dull coat. With the sheen gone I can finally really see the result of the black and white technique and the washes and filters and see if it was worth all the work.
Cheers,
JW

He guys,
Dull coat went on and I started on the chipping.
I decided to go for a heavy ware and tare finish on this models trying to make it look like it has been used in urban operation's.
Some of the weathering might look a bit on the heavy side but there is going to be dust and rubble applied so that will tone it down.
I did the three dimensional method were you first paint on the scratch with a lighter shade of the base colour and follow that with a dark brown shade. In addition to painting on the scratches I also used the sponge technique.
In addition to that I added dark rust stains and some local washes and stains using AK interactive enamel products. And as always with photos I did see a few spots were the enamel products need some more blending.
I did paint the canvases but as it looks now I am not really happy with the result. I am going to wait until I have given it a dull coat to see if it improves or am going to redo them. Maybe a khaki brown colour.
Although it is not overly visible the black and white technique is showing through. This is most visible on the turrets sides. That only had the black and white, base colour and a general wash. So the variation in colour is due to that.
Still need to do a lot of small things (spare tracks, chipping the wheels, tow cables, etc.).
Cheers,
JW

Well after the canvas had lost most of its shine I am going to repaint it. Going over reverences I am going to go for a shade that matches the vehicles colour (with maybe a bit of khaki added).

lookin nice, altho to be expected. despite an odd quirk, academy has a decent kit. one thing I noticed is the right front fender. what are those strips? in Lt. Col. Mass's book on the Batash, some pix show it, but other tanks don't have them. also, the decals, and there's a yanush stripe along the gun tube top, are on a tank in the same book. tank Gimel, 2nd "Lahav" Co., 3rd Batt. apparently it was stationed in the Samaria region. it also doesn't have the side armor mounted, but the rear brackets are there looks like I'll have to change mine from 2nd batt. to 3rd also, the cover for the laser rangefinder housing is a split piece, but not equal in size.
if by chance you're a bit annoyed with that tiny hole in the outer box on the right rear fender, I cut a number tab off a sprue, cut it diagonally and wedged it in with a spot of glue. now it's no longer annoying, at least on mine

I need to try this myself...
Just the white and black, WAUW!! It just needs a dirty wash and viola

@Russel:
There are no real other issues you should keep your eyes open for. You need to fill some holes and gaps but those are the same as with all the Academy M-60 kits.
As for the clearance issue, it is the bottom of the turret that catches. I don't have an issue with it and did not find it necessary to remove material from it to stop the catching. But that is a personal choice.
Back to the model.
I am using Jose Luis Lopez's black and whit pre shading/Lightening technique.
First I primed the model with grey followed by black. Then I airbrushed the white to the areas that catch the light and after that I used heavily thinned Vallejo black and white for the stripes and smears.
The idea is that the base colour that is going to be applied is very this so it will show through. If you get the chance you should check out Jose Luis Lopez's models, they are beautiful and inspirational

Hi Guys,
No progess this weekend. I got destracted by another project I am working on
@trakpin
From what I gather those strips on the front fender are for storing tents, tarps or nets and are not featured on all Magachs.
And as for that tiny hole in the outer box on the right rear fender, doesn't bother me
@Per
I really like this technique and am still figuring out how much or little base colour to add to get the desired effect.

Thanks John,
The tracks are Friul white metal tracks.
They were treaded chemically to blacken them. The method I use for that is not one that is really healthy nor safe.
The solution that I use is a mix of bleach and vinegar that blackens the track but gives off very harmful fumes.
A safer way is to use Blacken-it.
When they are dry I gave them a heavy wash of raw umber.

Hi guys,
Well after 2 days of adding weathering to the model I am calling her done.
The figure is from Black dog with a Hornet head. Added the spare tracks, chains, cables and lenses.
I used Mig pigments, AK interactive earth enamels and various other finishing products to obtain the finish.
Going by reference photos of IDF vehicles in urban settings I kept the weathering light. I also added "stones" and broken bottles and cans as if the vehicle was attacked.
I know during urban operations the turret basket would be empty but that is a bit of the artistic licence.
A full build of the model will be featured in SMMI.
Hoop you like it.
Cheers,
JW

very nicely done . looks pretty much like mine, except for the company chevron and turret basket. gotta ask, tho. what was used for the .50 mounting, other than the pedestal? what academy didn't seem accurate to me and the Batash book doesn't have a suitable closeup

Thanks guys.
@Trakpin.
For the .50 cal I used a mix of parts. The tan parts (pedestal) are from the Academy kit itself, the green parts (under the 50 cal and attached to the handels) are from the HobbyBoss Namer kit, the white resin parts ( ammo bin holder and shell bag) are from legend and the 50 cal is from another Academy set.
Cheers,
JW
