Hey!

looks good!

have you seen this: http://www.ipmsstockholm.se/home/category/artiklar/dr_gjutstam/dr_gjutstam_konigstiger_1_16/page/8/

It´s rather detailed, in Swedish but the Pictures are universial and google does translate.

Hi lars,
is this your build of the King Tiger?
It looks really good, but could you refrain from posting pictures of your build on this tread, it may confuse some of the people reading here. I'm trying to do a step by step build.
You should start your own thread, as I am sure that I and other readers may get a lot of information frome you.

First off I highly recomend viewing the build posted above here, loth of information. Thanks Lars.

Secondly I now have the engine , and cooling fans installed Picture below.

I would sudjest not bothering with anything beliw the engine exhaust as you cant see them after the engine is installed. Also the lower fuel tanks and plumbing are not seen.

Here we have the inner part of the rear armor plate installed. In reality it should be one plate but Trumpeter made it into inner and outer.

Now we have the outer side installed with the top hull tamporarily fitted to check the fit. Rather dissapointing, looks like I'm going to glue the upper hull in place, and do a lot of putting.

The sides will need a lot of putty and sanding to.
Thats it for now.

The main instrument gages by Archer Fine Transfers.

I wiuldn't bother with their interior stencile set as it is a jenerik coppy frof an old tiger I kit.

Below is the radio sets that came with the kit, I know that they arent accurate but don't look to bad.

Finally for today here are the engine area hatches.

There is a lot of pushpin dimples to be filled.
I am planning on building this kit with the hull closed as the fit of the top and bottom are not that great,
This will allow viewing of the engine and drivers areas.

I have some more work done.
Here ara the munitions assembled and painted.
I did half with brass casings and half with painted steel.
I figured this would work best at the time periodI am trying to achieve.

I have the munitions racks assembled, and will be installing them next with the assorted rounds.

Closed it up last night.

If you don't glue the top down the sides of the top will bulge out about 2-3 mm
This model is really heavy, I put it on my wifes digital kitchen scale and right now it weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces.

There is a slight gap on the front glacies plates.

The next two pics show the gaps in fitting the upper hull to the rear plate, sone stretch spruce and putty should take care of this.

These two pics are of the track, the clean up on the track with the guide teeth isn't to bad, but the conector track is loaded with flash and push pin marks to be filled.

Now we have the wheels. I painted the outside with the same green base, and the inside with the dark gray primer.

These are the major fittings for the lower hull.

The insides of the fenders are Grey Primer, not visable here.

You need to drill out the holes for the pins using a #54 drill or the pins wont fit.

Make sure the track guide pins for the turret track are on the right side, if you reverse them the securing block will not fit.

Finally for today we have 3 photos showing the track fitting and adjustment.
First the right side with the track installed and adjusted.

Second is the Left side with the track not adjusted.
Note the sloppy fit.

Third shows the track adjusted.
If you remove the large tob on thr inside of the hole on the inner hull side insert at the begining of the hull assembly you have a large amount that you can adjust the rear idler

Working on the Turret now. I have 4 Pics for you.
First here is a view of the inside of the turret interior top shell.
The arm for controlling the position of the commanders hatch should be positioned more towards the front of the turret. pushing it forward and towards the turret side would swing the hatch over the hatch opening.

You should remove at least 3 coils of the spring pictured or it will be dificult to place the gun in a neutral position.

Trim both edges to fit the turret basket floor about 1/32nd"

Just press together after trimming and glue.
Well thats all for now, the turret and its fittings don't fit verry good.

I have most of the lower part of the turret finished.

I'm not going to add the ammo to the racks, I found out the hard way, that you have to add the ammo during assembly of the racks. If you don't it is almost impossible to get the rounds in them.

The coaxle Mg. fits really nice.

I'm not sure what the swinking mechanism below the breechblock was fore, I think it was to slow down the shellcasing when it exited the gun?

View from lower left of the turret basket.

The fit and working of the mechanism for raising and lowering the gun barrel isn't to good I think that I'll glue the gun in one position.
Also you will not be able to rotate the turret while it is on the hull, parts on the turret basket catch on the lower ammo racks. Trumpeter must have taken there measurements on a Tiger II that wasn't restored quite accurately.
That's all for now.
Donald
