Rob and Edmund,

What airbrush and needle size are you guys using?

Cheers,
Joe

Ive personally sprayed Model Air with the following:

Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CRplus .2mm
Harder & Steenbeck Evolution CRplys .2mm
Iwata Revolution BR .3mm

I've had issues with all of the above but, of course, more so with the H&S brushes being that they have smaller nozzles/needles.

Hi Rob,

The issue may be with the .2 needle...try thinning a little
more.

Vallejo stuff is really thick in my opinion and I have
had issues with Model Air out of the bottle.

A far as Model Color.....lots of thinning and multi coats.

My solution....extra thinning and a little retarder especially for extreme fine work.(.2 or .3 needles)

If you are just laying down a base coat or doing general
area coverage...use a bigger needle.(.5)

What also helps is a thinner soaked QTip to periodically
clean the tip as you airbrush.

Cheers,
Joe

Badger 100 medium tip and for wide areas I've tried to use a large tip . Always had problems with clogging . I will try some more there has to be a happy medium with this paint .

Which retarder and how much of it do you use, Joe? May want to try adding some...

Vallejo makes retarder. (Product no:597 Slow Dry) in the
Model color line. I put in 1-2 drops in the paint and thinner mix, with which I will airbrush.
This is all mixed in a medicine cup before I put it in the airbrush.
I also use it when I am brush painting.
This is the only way I have been able to successfully get
decent results.

I am told that any retarder should work but I am one who
uses same Co. products to avoid issues and then have to
break my head trying to figure out what factor created the problem.

Of note: I have tried the stuff, more or less tamed it, BUT
TAMIYA is still my favorite for airbrushing...have used it
for 25 years and never had any issues with it.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe makes a very good point. I thin all my paints, both Tamiya and Vallejo in a separate container before I put them in my airbrush.

I do the same as you and do mix all of my paints in a separate container but I have to say that I did not do this with Model Air. Being that the squeez bottle is so convenient, I just went ahead and pour some directly into the color cup (after adding thinner first). I'll try mixing outside the brush and see if anything changes.
