I'm surprised that they aren't the same pattern and colors as the NATO pattern. I actually like more larger areas OD sand versus the smaller splotched of red-brown in the NATO pattern.

Probably due to the fact that Australsian scenery is quite different from Europe/North America.

Jus thinking about the NATO paint is applied at the factory by robotics, just seems inefficient to repaint when they arrive. Also since replacement parts are prepainted and that'd mean a whole different production line for their spare parts.

Also defeats the purpose of all allies having a standard paint scheme in order to avoid the enemy being able to differentiate vehicles, units and countries based on their paint scheme.

Bruce, the Australian bush is VERY different colour wise from northern hemisphere forests.

HazZaRd, I'd check you colours. The green looks a little dark and the yellow is way to yellow, it should be more tanish.

Australian M1's were acquired in CARC Sand. Then re-painted straight over the top of CARC Sand with a grey etching primer, then in the Australian Three Tone by crews in accordance to a set pattern.
All spare parts come in a CARC Green colour(not sure of the correct term). These parts are mostly the consumable items. Such as road wheels, support arms, gun sights, side skirts, tool bins, APUs, etc.

As for our M1's being in another camouflage patten, not much point doing that here as previously stated.
Natoflage stands out like the proverbial dogs balls in the Australian bush.

Yep, i know that it the problem with these australian colors, almost cant get the right shade, i already had to strip the whole model once!
but like i said, i will correct the colors with a filter, orange for the tan color, and a yellow orche for the green.
I'm sure this will correct the color.

Hello . I look forward to this build.

On the 3 colors that make up the Australian camo pattern, this is quite an old sore point for many of us. Simply put next to no one makes a completely accurate scale color version of this. Mouse house is possibly the most accurate, but you do pay for that accuracy in the form of an unusual medium (not enamel, not acrylic) and the need to "lighten" the color for scale. I did a review of their set some time ago here:

There is a model master enamel that is quite close.. I cannot remember it ( for the sand color that a definite "pinkish hue" to it) I think might be italian armour sand or something - will dig it up if I can.

Just remember that the sand color is definitely the most difficult to match IMO, and has an obvious pink hue. I once saw and laughed at some 110 series Landrover's painted in just the pink only at Centre Squadron in Alice Springs a few decades ago, and the next day ate my hat when after driving into the sticks, then walking away from vehicle about 30 meters, turned around and only the tyres were visible! that pink matched our sunburnt country amazingly well!

Good luck, I will watch carefully as with otheres. Australian Armour is bittersweet - unique versions of vehicles that are great subject matter , but when its not done right - it really stands out and is usually caned for it !

Side note - after looking at the 3-tone coloring, something crossed my mind: when we build a "sand color" armor (e.g. a Bradley), why would it carry green-color stowage to give it's camouflage away?

aand we are back, after a long time not even thinking about modelling, i finally got back to the bench.

after the last update i added a lot more filters to correct the Tan and the Green to match the real color.
I also added the decals and a semi glos coat

Agree. The official tan part of AusCam is FS30219. Mouse House do tins of our Lustreless Olive Drab too. Even when freshly painted, the colour is very distinctively an olivey colour, not at all green
