James,
Yeah I was thinking along the same lines vs a vie the barrels from some Aircraft stuff!! I am thinking will need a late stug III or IV to get the remote mg.

What is the archer set you mentioned sounds like it could be worth getting, is it the same one you used on your Sryian T55?

Ron it is a mount made for the DSHK 12.5mm

Mike,

Yes they are, the one I painted over in red was from this set.

Yeah a late Ausf G Stug is probably a good starting point, although I don't think they are late enough to have the mantlet with the co-ax MG, so you're probably in mid-late territory, I need to brush up on my Stug production history here! I know DML do a range so one will be suitable.

Ron you may find these useful:

Star Decals Syrian 1967 war

I knew there Johan would have something suitable, I love his decals.

So did Germany sell these Stug III's to Syria back in the 40's? How did Syria acquire these ?

Hi David,

No the German's didn't sell them any, these were captured / war booty, from Russia, France & Chechzlovakia I think.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that no one gave them away free either!!

At least I think not!!

According to Achtungpanzer.com

"After the war ended, approximately 28 Stug III Ausf Gs found their way to Syria from France, Spain and Romania and served there until 1967"

AFAIK a few were also transferred by the Soviets to the Syrian Army indeed...

No worries mate,

Try Dragon 6581 "StuG.III Ausf.G, Dec 1943 Production"
or
6593 "Sturmgeschutz/StuG.III Ausf.G Dec.1944 (Late Production)"

The first one has the correct mantlet but not the remote MG, the later is the other way around, however knowing DML both will have enough spares in the box to vary the production date a fair amount, so you can probably back date or vice versa to get what you want.

This Site is very useful for seeing what you actually get in the box, so with a bit of detective work you should be able to work out which is best.

Good luck!

Very interesting thought Ron.

I've got a Syrian SU-100 I need to finish too.

What are you thinking, just a group build or even a campaign?

Syrian ww2 era armour may be a bit specific if we do the latter, we could do WW2 steel in the middle east which would allow us to get some Egyptian and Israeli armour in there too, or even post war ww2 armour which opens all kind of options. (I'm keen to do a Argentinian Firefly for example).

Thoughts?

I see no reason why not mate. The script looks more like the Ottoman style but I'm no expert, I think these are slogans more than anything and appear to be interchangeable between vehicles of the era.
Unless someone can correct me otherwise I'd say you would be safe using them on the Pz IV.

Not exactly a campaign, just a fun thing to build with a bunch of others. No rules or strings attached.

Ok Ron, I'm up for it.

I can finish my Stug III (I need a kick in the ass like this to get my builds done!) or perhaps try one of the many alternate themes posted.

No rules is a bit too loose, surely we need to agree on a subject?!

Anyone else keen, I'm suggesting ww2 armour used by ARAB (ie. not israel) states as a theme. The reason being there are plenty of IDF sherman builds out there and I think the Arab builds tend to have a certain 'air' of interest about them.

Nick, I'm guessing you're in as you're already planning a panzer IV. Mike I'm guessing you'd be keen too?

If anyone is let us know. I suggest we start another thread as this one's a bit specific? Or perhaps someone knows how to change the thread title?

Might get a few more on board that way......

Cheers,

James

Hi Ron & James,

Sounds very interesting to me!!

The only issue / question I have is a time line as I am already commited to 3 builds for my club, not to mention a certain T55 that I have to finish lol

Plus a civil war campaign that I have to lead from January

lol, No worries Mike,

As Ron says, lets keep it relaxed and not worry too much. I just checked and the aftermarket bits I need for the Stug are out of stock, plus I have about 54 other builds on the go and am about to move house..... Therefore I'm happy to take it easy on this one!
Build in your own time would probably be the name of the game.

James

P.S. I am definitely up for the civil/proxy war campaign!

Hi James,

Sounds like you have a lot on as well, I hope all goes well moving into your new place!! A build at your own pace could be just what I need not to mention having to source all the kits lol, as I only have the early Stug III g for it so far!!

Will be great having you on board for the civil war / proxy super power war Campagin as I know you will bring something great & different to the table!!

Cheers Mike
