Hi !!
I just want to ask you if this can be made, can the M977 truck transport an apache attack helicopter?
If so did someone have a picture?
If not which alternatives do I have?
Regards

AH64 Apache: Fuselage length: 49 ft 5 in (15.06 m)
Note, the nose gear is very near the front and the tail gear is at the very back if the fuselage.
M977: Length 33.4 ft (10.2 m)
AH-1G Cobra: Fuselage length: 44 ft 7 in (13.6 m)
Now, given the skids, a Cobra COULD theoretically fit in the back of an M977 but there'd be a whole lot of overhang.

I'm sure I've seen a photo of an AH-1W in the back of a HEMTT in a Concord book. I figured it would be on the Internets somewhere but no luck on the Google machine. I'll have to start looking through some books...

In Concord 1026 (Third Brave Rifles In The Gulf) there´s a pic of AH-1 on a flatbed towed by M-800 series recovery truck. In the same book there is HEMMT with Huey (or at least a torso of Huey) in the cargo area.

It`s the hulk of an OH-58 Kiowa on the HEMTT.
Another question. Why should an Apache be transported on a HEMTT? Because it looks cool? I think the only way to transport a downed Apache is to use a M1070 HETS.

Hi there,
building an M1074 PLS is pretty complex. First you have to add the 5th axle. Second, the suspension system is different from the HEMTT. Definitly no conversion kit out there.
Oshkosh Corporation homepage has some downloads but I am not sure that this will be enough.

Hi Mike,
MRC has done the AH-1W in 1/35 scale. Quite a neat kit, but so far, no US Army Cobra available.
@blackwoodie:
How about this?

How good is the Revell Apache? I am thinking of using that if I cannot find the AH-1.

Hi Mike,
the Revell kit is pretty good, but is an earlier Apache. There a company from Korea called Kangnam who does two 1/35 scale Apaches, one AH-64 A and one AH-64 D.

Stay as far away from the Kangnam kits as possible. They are horribly inaccurate and misshapen. The D is just the A model with a couple inaccurate d-like pieces added. Bottom line - they suck.
It would be much better to build the Revell A model and get the Cobra Company and Verlinden resin upgrade sets and the Eduard PE set for it to come up with a really nice, pretty current AH-64A.

The AH-1W is a marine helo and the marines dont use the m977, the M977 is used only by the army

That pic is from Operation Desert Storm (ODS, '90-'91). The Huey would be a UH-1H. An H model can be made from either the 1/35 Panda/Dragon UH-1D (all the H parts are in the kit) or from the 1/32 Revell UH-1D/H kits.
The 1/32 scale mixing w/1/35 is not really an issue since they are mixed type vehicle (helo and truck) If you had two HMMWVs and one was 1/32 and one 1/32, then it would be noticable. I regulary mix 1/32 helos w/1/35 armorand figures and they look great together.

The statement that the USMC does not use M977 HEMTTs is correct. You may be confusing them w/the USMC Mk.48 LVS (Logistics Vehicle System). It is a two-piece tractor and trailer system that has a similar front to a HEMTT, but can have multiple different rear cargo sections added.

Perhaps you saw the new LVSR? Logistics Vehicle System Replacement is a version that looks like the Army`s M1074 PLS.

Ummm. I'm pretty sure I have two MRC ones in my stash. (1/35th)
Not sure if they are "A" models though.
