Hello Trakpin,

I can only agree with the statements made here. Academys (diesel engined) is the better kit, but (also as mentioned) still needs some work.

If you wanted to build an early petrol version, I think that the Academy would still be the best starting point (rather than the Tamiya kit), but of course the engine and fuel tank and some other parts would need to be replaced.

There are also various updates available, one of my favourites is the fairly new Verlinden M113A1 interior, which replaces every single interior part in the kit, including the engine. Very nice indeed.

What we really need, though, is a brand new, state of the art M113 series in 1:35 scale, I am rather surprised that none of the manufacturers have done it yet, considering the enormous potential with so many variants produced.

One can only hope :-)

I have it on the way. should be here next week. that interior just might be next, but in a pic I saw verlinden did the same thing academy did, put the radio on some kind of box rather than a shelf. it'd still be useable, tho and something could be rigged for a shelf. this is the one I found, assuming it's the same referred to by Sven: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CE0QFjAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scalemates.com%2Fproducts%2Fproduct.php%3Fid%3D190736&ei=Le_8U4_VOo2yyASsroCgBQ&usg=AFQjCNE4-oyUFFMaKwrOolcjRtybYza-eQ&bvm=bv.73612305,d.aWw

can anyone identify the tracks in the first post here: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=eF2vvnkYdxrY4M&tbnid=x7z2jOj9b4K3TM:&ved=0CAMQjhw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usmilitariaforum.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3F%2Ftopic%2F191984-m113a1-acav-11th-acr-in-vietnam%2F&ei=SvH8U_n9LdOoyASwj4KYCw&bvm=bv.73612305,d.aWw&psig=AFQjCNHMLjOYwqmWCNgxUSkax1GKFpE8Sw&ust=1409172073227864 and the .50 in the last pic?

Trakpin. That is the Verlinden set that Sevn referenced. If you look closer at the picture, you can see that the radio is sitting on a shelf, not a box. The shelf is long enough to hold two radios. Most command tracks had two radios.

The track in the picture appears to be these.

I'm not sure about the 50 Cal, but there are several good versions of it from aftermarket companies.

Yupp, its definitely a shelf for the radio, not a box. Used parts of thiw interior for my build, would have used all of it, but had already scratchbuilt a bunch of stuff for the interior before it was released :-)

(note that I am building the early, petrol version, so I did not use the engine or the resin gas tank - other than that, the entire left wall is Verlinden parts).

so the shelf is part of the verlinden set. good

Delta42, been thinking the tracks might be modelkasten, as those in the pic appear to have track pins, the whiteish "dots". got tasca's .50 MG set B incoming and lionroar barrels for them

saw on 54at the A1 had 1 shock absorber on each side. assuming that's right, what about the 2 on the rear? the lower hull is for an A2 and has 2 shocks per side forward. also, is there anything AM for this?

This should help with the shock absorber question.

Best fix is to just shave off the second front one and the rear one.

The rear most one which is connected to the idler is on all 113 models as this is the track adjuster. Dont shave that one off

Not talking about the track adjuster. Talking about the back absorber that is on the A2 versions. See above picture.

echelons periscope inserts

AFAIK, periscopes of Vietnam era M113's didn't have anti-laser coating...

great. it's good of echelon to make a note of what version it's for, which they failed to do . found a thread here indicating so, with a pic provided by you
