Simple question:
What was the color of the underside of late war German ambush camouflaged tanks?

Thx.

Logically, your two acceptable options are unpainted red oxide primer or dunkelgelb. No one can really argue with you with either.

Schwarzadler you have just pushed a big stick into an even bigger wasp nest .

I found this on the Panzerbaer.de site:
http://www.uschivdr.com/products-in-detail/friul-burnishing/

Quick translation is this:
from August 44 the following colours are to be used:
Base Coat Ral 7028 Dunkelgelb with additional camo colours of Ral 6003 Olive green and Ral 8017 Chocolate brown.

from September 44 the following colours are to be used:
Base coat Ral 8012 red oxide with additional camo colours of Ral 6003 Olive green and Ral 7028 Dunkelgelb.

from November 44 the following colours are to be used:
Base coat Ral 6003 olive green with additional camo colours of Ral 7028 Dunkelgelb and Ral 8017 Chocolate brown.

This all sounds good to me and I stick to it, but there certainly could have been oddities to this in the ending months of the war. Stuff like leftover white, ivory, german grey and africa brown and possibly even those Luftwaffe colours being mixed in too.

Good luck on whatever you choose and please show us the end result
