Thanks, Ron. I am glad you like it.
Mario,
There have been many times over the years when I start with a particular diorama idea and it either morphs into something else or new figures come out on the market that I want to build more and the idea gets scrapped altogether. The one with the water buffalo probably won't get built. The one with the shaving cream joke got changed, but I did build a small 2 figure vignette using the sleeping Soldier and then a conversion of one of Bravo 6's M79 grenadiers as a humorous entry for a show I entered a couple of months ago. Later today or tomorrow I will post a picture of it on this thread to show you.
I've used plenty of Hobby Fan figures and have used the equipment such as their canteens and ammo pouches for quite some time. They are also very nice figures. I have done several dioramas in the past using Hobby Fan figures. The last one was my "Just Another Morning In Vietnam" diorama that I did for the last Vietnam building campaign on Armorama.
I agree that the latest two from CMK are pretty nice figures. However, they are not Marines. They look more like 9th Infantry Division Soldiers during the May 1968 Mini-Tet. The sculptor did a pretty good job on most of the stuff on the figures. I wish he had added some thickness to the claymore bag the sergeant is wearing, but with a bit of putty the problem is solved.
Cheers,
James

Thanks Richard,
I enjoyed SuperCon. I am glad we were able to attend this year and I am sure we will attend from now on. This diorama did not place, but my "The NVA Sketch..." vignette won Third Place. It is not exactly the one I would have chosen, but when considering that people like Doug Cohen, Henry Nunez, and Bob Bethea were displaying figures and vignettes there, too, I am very pleased with 3d Place for any of them.
I was impressed with the quality of the entries from all categories. What did you have entered in the show?
Cheers,
James

Mario,
Here is a picture of the vignette I created with the figure sleeping on the air mattress with the shaving cream in his hand. The original guy with the can of shaving cream did not turn out well, so I did not use him. The M79 grenadier was originally going to be part of a larger vignette that the "All Gave Some...Some Gave All!" vignette eventually evolved into. Since I made it into a smaller vignette to give a stronger story line, I had this figure already painted and ready to go. I decided to to the stick in his hand to tickle the sleeping Soldier's face. Plus it allowed me to enter it into a Humor in Modeling category at a show that took place a couple days later.
Cheers,
James

Hi Mario,
i think if James would produce his own Figures or across a different manufacture we would be his best consumers .
@ James - ist a great Little Vignette and good to see how you use these two Figures you have shown us some time ago as wip. Hopefully we will se some of the other great wip Figures in the future too. You mentiond the lying one with a claymore clacker in Hand instead of the M-16.
Bye, bye
Stefan
