Aloha everyone!!!

Can someone please clarify the difference between the IDF's Windbreaker system and the Trophy system? Are they one in the same? I purchased the Voyager "Windbreaker" set which includes a huge Mask but then was looking through some reference photos and it stated that this was part of the Trophy system. WHAT?!?! As to date I was under the impression that no one but AEF Designs has even attempted to do the Trophy system. HELP!!!

Thank you in advance,

Kurt

I am also confused as I also ordered the mast kit, but the web shows things like TROPHY radar and no mast? Like video here... (I have no "need to know" of course)

"Windbreaker" ADS is the former name of the "Trophy" ADS system, nothing else...

The "Droid" is another stuff, both still classified so you'll not find much credible info about it

Thanks for all your input guys! Sooo the Droid is NOT the same as the Trophy...right? Sooo then I see some tanks with the Droid and some with the Trophy. Is it a safe bet to say that the Droid was a predecessor to the Trophy system? Sorry S Gillespie but I didn't get through your last post, probably should, I'm probably asking things that are laid out there. Oh well, maybe just chuck this whole thing up to it being "classified" and wait for Meng/Trumpeter/Hobby Boss to do a Merk with both the Droid and the Trophy!!! hahaha

Yes, the Droid and the trophy will not go together on the same vehicle. It will be quite redundant.
But the Droid is not exactly a predecessor of the Throphy system. Its other kind of ADS, let's say other technology... and that's all the info you'll find.
Everybody who really know about this stuff will answer you that you don't need to know any more about it.

The available "Droid" kits are quite good, and can be easily installed on the Merkava kits already available.
You'll have to make an "educated guess" about the wiring, but I've seen some very good and convincing models out there.
Just check for references to see what particular vehicle you want to build, that's the only way to go on the safe side.
For example, I don't recall now if I've seen any Merkava IV LIC with the Droid installed. So if you want to build this configuration, do your homework first and look for references.

For the Trophy stuff, well, that will involve some scratchbuilding skills and enough -hard to find- detailed views of the turrets equipped with it.
I guess more info and images will become available due to recent IDF operations...

Judging by some of the pics above, in case you lack some details on a "sensitive item" for your build, you can always hide it under a canvas cover

As always, Frenchy is the man for almost any picture you're looking for!
You can see that the devices shown in these pictures are not the same "Droid" released by the AM producers (ET Model, Voyager, and so on), so even more "mistery" there.

Ahhh, the old trick of hiding details under a tarp....
It brings nostalgic memories, LOL

In terms of what they _are_ as opposed to how to model them, Droid appears to be an active jamming system. Something to confuse the control or aim of ATGMs. Possible an active jammer in IR and/or laser frequencies. The Merkava isn't terribly worried about RPGs it's more concerned about the later AT-14 Kornet heavy tank killer, which will give any modern tank armour more than a run for it's money. As a guided weapon, confusing the guidance renders the missile ineffective.

Trophy is an active protective system with radars and computers to sense the incoming thread and actual munitions to shoot down the incoming RPGs and ATGMs at a close distance to the tank.

Trophy is significantly more capable than Droid as one only confuses the guidance of one class of weapon whereas the other actually shoots down the threat.

There are a growing number of active protection systems, 8 or 9 last time I looked, and some even claim to be effective against hypersonic APFSDS-T rounds.

And for those concerned about OpSec, none of what I said here is not available on the actual manufacturer's web site.

Hi,
The soft-kill system mounted on the Merkava Mk. IIID and some Mk. IID tanks is named ALWACS.
