hi all,
I havn't built any armour for a long long...err....long time but I got the dragon 88mm as an impulse buy...
the story so far, I've really enjoyed the build , quite straight forward, so now its time to get the paints out.
I'm going to do the scheme on the box top, just one question, was the whole gun undercoated in red oxide ?
cheers paul

Germans used black lacquer coat for gun tubes on the majority if not all of their tanks. The rest was coated in red oxide (turret, hull, tools, everything). I imagine the same goes for the FLAK and PAK AA/AT guns. Everything in red oxide besides the barrel.

Yes, the dark lacquer was heat resistant. Normal finishes would blister off after prolonged firing.

with that being said, i am not sure whether just the inner barrel (part that recoils inwards) is coated in dark lacquer, or the entire barrel structure...

I take it the kit did not include a shield for the gun . Nor the transport Dolly's ?

there is a shield but I prefer it without, there are loads of parts leftover including wheels but no fenders.
