Out of curiosity (and what an interesting conversation too) what is the difference between the track design that you want on the model to the track design that Friuls offer?

I just want to see what the difference is?

Thanks and I do think that 3-D printing will be the future.

Jeff

Jeff, your questions confuses me a little bit. Right now Friul does not offer Batash type track, they offer sets for I think all marks: I, II, III and IV, none of those tracks is fitted to the upgraded Merkava MK. IID. Instead the MK IID uses Batash reinforced tracks which are common with M60 based Magach 6B Gal Batash and are nothing like other merkava series tracks visually (maybe a little like Mk.IV tracks, but still different)

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg, sorry to be so confusing with my question. I can be like that sometimes.

I just wanted to SEE the difference on the track types... that's all. The difference between the Batash type track and the 'other' type that is on the I, II, III and IV Merkavas.

But I will do some searching myself (I like educational threads such as this) and try to find out. Glad to see you worked out the problem on YOUR project as it looks great!

This is the best image I can find to show the difference. On our left is the later Merkava 2 track (two oval holes in it; like Friul's ATL-66). On our right is the Batash track; note that the 'tread' portion is more straighter across than the other version. Merk 3 and 4 again use different tracks, just find the Friul reference photos and you should be able to tell the differences.

I see... big difference!

Thanks.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I have an old Academy IDF M-60A1 that appears to use the Merk II pattern. Since the Friul set doesn't come with sprockets, does anyone have a feel for whether the Merk II tracks generally work with the M-60 Magach sprockets? I know ever kit manufacturer's sprockets are different and I'll have to deal with that, but I would hate to drop some serious money on Friuls if there is no hope that it will work.

Oh, does anyone know what is the difference between Friul ATL-63 and ATL-66?

I've built a few of the Academy kits that come with the Merk track, and the kit also includes the appropriate sprockets, which fit the Friul Merk-1 and both versions of the -2 just fine.
I may be wrong here, but I seem to recall the ATL-63 being a transition track from the Merk-1 to -2,usable on both, depending on time frame. The holes in the replacement track, ATL-66, may be there to reduce weight, not sure. The ATL-66 links may also be slightly wider, not sure.
Like most any IDF project, it helps to have pics of the actual vehicle and go from there.
And while I'm thinking about it, and to return to the OP's subject, has anyone used Friul's Batash tracks yet?

Thanks, Russell. I've seen plenty of photos of what appear to be Magach M60A1s with either Merk tracks or the original T-142s; have even seen some photos that look like batash tracks, but difficult to tell.
