I want to add a model of a M113AS4 APC to my collection and have had a look at some walk arounds and the examples on the army website

http://www.army.gov.au/~/media/Files/Our%20work/Equipment%20and%20clothing/Vehicles/Fact%20Sheet%20-%20M113.pdf

I See that Tamiya does a M113A2, which the general body shape is right, but its missing the turret and a few other minor things. Is there a better kit out there. Does anyone do modern decals or will I have to make do with the Echelon Abrams ones which look pretty similar with a few notable exceptions. Ideas and suggestions please.

Hi Troy, it's not an easy one. You'll either need a couple of Tamiya M113A2's and some hard work with a razor saw as the ADF M113AS4 has the extra wheel. Alternatively there's the Perfect Scale Modellbau Danish version which adds the extra wheel and extended box. At a price.

The turret is even tougher. It's an Australian made Tenix I believe. Closest available is probably the Best Value Models Canadian TLAV - but quite different in the angles for a start.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I've since been told there is rumour of a new M113AS4 kit coming out in 2015. Might wait and see what happens.

An accurate off the shelf model of this kit is unlikely.
Best to hope for is an aftermarket conversion set or sets. However these take a very long time to develop / test cast/ market etc. Take the Bushmaster PMV kit corrections, an accurate fix is still not available and that kit was released some 4 years ago! I would suggest even if a kit manufacturer built one, such as Trumpeter, there would be too many inaccuracies (see their ASLAV and variants) for a serious build. The usual aftermarket companies would drop update sets but rarely are they accurate (Eduard, etc etc)and a local manufacturer such as Mouse House or Arms Corps Models would be worth waiting for. Their products are superior to all others and usually more accurate than the modeler knows what to do with all that detail! If you want the AS4 then be patient, or scratch build your own. I'm too lazy and time poor to scratch build anymore, but I am quite patient!

Adamski

PS Arms Corps Models are definitely worth the wait! The QUality always exceeds expectation.

Hi there
The Mouse House Team is currently working on the complete resin / PE kit of an M113AS4 APC hopefully to be released later this year.
So far we have the basic hull and turret done. The new drive sprocket and T150F track links are ready for casting. The rear fuel tank just needs detailing. Having said that, there are an endless array of smaller detail bits that still have to be created.
The hardest part was the front headlight cluster brush guard. In the end we had that drawn and the master 3D printed.
If you are interested in purchasing the model in due course please register your interest by sending your name to [email protected].

The version I'm really waiting for is the "Tilly" variant.

Any plans on releasing that one as a conversion?

Cheers,

Christophe

The ALV that you show is the prototype. The wheel spacing is different on the production version.

Christophe, as mentioned that pic is of the development/prototype ALV (Armoured Logistics Vehicle). The in service ALV has a stretched wheel base.
I built one a few years ago before development was finalised. I use a Tamiya A Cav kit and lots of styrene, the extra wheels came from a friend and the tracks are from HK Creation Workshop, but they represent a Diel design link, not the same as the AS4 fitted UDLP T-150 tracks. Not exactly right but are about the only current option you have, but I would hold out for what Mouse House is working on, it's spot on and coming fairly soon I believe.

Thanks! It's a great looking model of a great looking variant.

I think another country came up with a similar concept, can't remember which one right now...

This vehicle has so many modular possibilities that scream to be manufactured (in plastic too: i.e., ambulance, cargo hauler, workshop, SPG, missile/rocket launcher, etc)!

Canada has the T-LAV MTR, which is a similar concept.

I'd be very interested in getting one, even more so if there was the M113AS4AF variant or better still, the M806AS4 ARVL. It'd sit along side the ASLAV-R and M88A2 nicely

The plan is to do most of not all variants.
After the APC then it will be the ACV/Ambo, the ARVL, Fitter and possibly ALV.
Getting reference material is difficult except at open days and even then you can get a stroppy Sgt that basically says go away.

So if there is anyone out there that can help without getting into trouble, great, contact us and we will look after you when the kits comes out.
