Born may 27th 1922; he worked as a pharmacist in his own pharmacy until 2011. With 90+ he worked part time in his "Tiger-Apotheke". . I'm glad to get his signed book "tiger im Schlamm" 2013!

Sad, talk about living all corners of life, he saw it all!
I too was fortunate to have a couple books signed by him also a couple years back.
For anyone who hasn't read it Tigers in The Mud is a great book.

He was a brilliant Tiger commander. He didn't have much good to say about the US Army when he faced them in the last months of the war. He was kind of biiter about the use of airstrikes against his Jagdtigers.

Those who remember the WWII era are fewer and fewer everyday....WWII veterans are leaving us at a rate of 2000 per day.

Just found this news. It is sad yet, not knowing him personally, it sounds like he had an extraordinary and full life; spending it as a pharmacist sounds like he did very well the rest of his life. We should hope that all former warriors have a long full life. I am happy that I have not read anything about Carius that tarnishes his legacy. TIGERS IN THE MUD - great read.

Yeah, but what did he think about the use of Stukas against Char Bs and Matildas in 1940? I think it is in German Tanks of World War Two by George Forty which opens with the author discussing driving through a battle field of dozens of Shermans knocked out assaulting a single Jagdtiger. The Jagdtiger was later blown up by its crew.

Carius, he will be missed. Soulds like a man I would ahve liked to talked with.

I wonder how many people built models for him? I'll bet more than he had room for. Museums probably benefited from the leftovers.

Clearly he had good taste in cars as well. They stand out quite a bit among the tanks! Still sad to see this, looks like he was a friendly guy.

Very sad news, a true warrior among the legends of his time. I lost count of the number of times that I have read Tigers In The Mud. I heard from some people that he was very approachable to talk to. What I would not give to have his Knights Cross for my collection. Dale

RIP Otto.
