This is the ancient Matchbox kit of the Churchill A.V.RE (40177). I bought this kit at a show or online E-auction, I can't remember for sure.
This will be for participation in the Engineering The Future campaign
Dig the pictures of the 1982 tooling

The I-sheets start with the bridge assembly
thanks for looking. . . .

The Small Box Girder (S.B.G) Bridge is done, sans paint. The girders had some seam lines and subtle flash but all in good places because after assembly, I couldn't see them anyway. The 'wooden' planks had sink areas that needed attention, so I used putty and sanded flush
The cross beams had sink marks too but were filled with putty and sanded smooth before assembly
This Bridge sub-assembly is done and waiting for paint

I glued together the one piece road wheels / suspension part(s) with the outer and inner side parts. Then the fenders on top.
After the cement cured, I masked off the painted the base coat color on the under and back side of this sub-assembly. I did this because it would be difficult to get the paint there after complete assembly and I didn't want bare plastic spots to show
A clear example of the clever design of this kit. All of the puttied and sanded spots will not show after final assembly so none of that work was needed anyway

Nice clean assembly! I've got a couple of these in the stash and oddly enough was eyeing one up a couple of weeks ago after looking in on the "engineering" campaign thread ....

Ballast weight needs to be added to the interior rear area so the completed model does not unrealistically 'endo'
The i-Sheet suggests 20 grams of weight not included in the box
I find a 25 gram, automobile wheel balance weight, in the recycle bin at work. Perfect shape to fit into this little guy
each section was a little wide so I ground away some of the material (dotted lines). This brought down the weight to an exact 20g
Glued in using white glue (PVA)

The i-sheet is not clear on the exact position of the 'rear plate'.
It could fit on the model in two different ways based on the parts angles.
I web searched and found several 1/35 build pictures.
This helped with final placement
too low but it fit perfectly with the angles
this is the final position

The cement has cured and the rear plate is in final position.
I used the two positioning tabs molded into the rear plate [part 40] pictured in the i-sheet,several posts above

I filled in and sanded smooth the two gaps on the front of the lower hull (arrows). That was a mistake for this variant kit.
^ Those are the mounting points for the Bridge Carrier [parts 3 and 4]
^ See the little tabs (on parts 3 and 4) that stick out and insert into those gaps, that I filled?
v So I dug the putty back out with the tip of my knife and glued in the Bridge Carrier parts

This is the base color as it looks today. The aerosol can cap is sprayed MM: FS 34087 Olive Drab. The images are not exactly color modulated accurately

1982- when it had been decided it wasn't worth making anything in England ever again. So just grind the word off.
Can't believe you found something so similar to the mysterious object shown in the instructions... So is 20g enough to balance the bridge?
Build is looking good, and yes, the MB kits were nicely designed.

Haha, is that it then ?!?
Yes, 20g is enough. I just haven't glued the SBG bridge to the hull yet. Thanks for the comment

Yes, this is still on the bench.
I'm going with this color green for the base coat. Then Old School with dark washes and dry brushing.
However, I need advice from builder who have built this or another 'rigged' model in this scale before, How do I do this? I see the i-sheet directions but where do I start and how do I keep it all taut?

I've never rigged one yet as my old one needed the Bridge to be removable for gaming. Here's a link on how to rig the SBG that I found and had saved for a later project though, hope it helps. Interestingly you could have modelled the bridge folded too, I'd forgotten about that ....

Nice work. I've built a 1/35 scale version of this recently. Great fun.
If it's not too late, you may wish to re-do the rear tow pintle as Airfix have you mount it far too high on the rear panel.
As for rigging, depends on your choice of cabling. Some suitable scaled nylon thread would probably work best and once in position, add some touches of CA glue to keep it taught?

Hi, Stefan Halter (Dangeroo) did one for the MB Nostalgia Campaign, and there were a couple of other examples completed in that campaign too:

All three can be seen at the end page 1.

Gary, I'm going to leave the rear tow pintle will remain where it is in this scale. If it was 1/35, then I'd probably correct it. Thanks for the info
A simple wash and dry brush. This needs to be done before rigging. The wash color is a black/brown tint

Nice work so far! Memories of a fun bild and a fun campaign.
The rigging is not as hard as it looks, I don't seem to recall any difficulties, though it's been a few years now...
I guess I just cut the right length, then glued on one side at a time and let it dry. The main point here is not to try to get it ofer too quick and let each attachment point cure thoroughly before doing the other side.
Hope that helps!
Cheers!
Stefan

Dangeroo, Honored by your reply here. That is very helpful info. It gives me confidence.
tread_geek, Thanks for the link hook up
Dry brushing started with an olive drab color then lightened slightly for a second pass. One more pass with a lighter shade then decals. The bridge boards got my attempt at looking like the green paint wore off the wood in the middle of each section. Aluminum wear will follow on the aluminum parts where appropriate
