Hi everyone. I have been stalking this website for awhile now. The work on here is amazing. I just got back into scale modeling about a year ago and have loved it. I'm kind of picky when it comes to building my models and like to add as much detail as possible. I currently got turned onto the Fruilmodel tracks. Though they are time consuming, the end result is awesome. My question is, I'm having problems trying to locate a set for a few of my models. I was hoping someone on here could point me in the right direction.

First kit is Tamiya's Sd.Kfz 251.1, ITEM 35195-2800

Second kit is Tamiya's Panther Ausf. A medium tank

Both are Tamiya's 1/35th scale.

Any help would be great. Thanks again fellas.

Pacific Coast Models are the official US importers I think. You will find the track sets in the online store listing

You say you're "picky" -- then don't put a gold ring in a pig's snout. Practice on your two Tamiya kits -- both from the early 70s. And then go out and buy a DML Panther G or Panther A and never look back at those 40 year old kits again.

You shouldn't invest 1 penny into upgrading those two ancient Tamiya kits. Indeed, the Panther A is singly one of the most inaccurate, still produced kits available on the market today.

Look at this: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dr6268.htm

... and your callsign name?

Steve. Thanks for the info. I'll look into them.

Roy. Thanks for the douche reply. I had the Panther kit in my stash for awhile and decided to blow the dust off of it and build it. May not be the best kit, it's a rather old kit but it was fine with me. Sorry it isn't to your "standards" but I was simply asking a question about tracks. Didn't need a education on how to be a dick since it seems you have that on lock down.

My callsign? Must be something else you don't like but I don't really care.

Just another reason why I never registered until today and probably shouldn't if dicks like Roy are going to be responding to posts. Wow.

Matt, I think you're giving a nuclear response to Roy's comment. Please refrain from cursing, and yeah I know that sounds cheesy but seriously no one wants to read it.

Anyhow, Roy has been here for a long time and he's neither a douche nor a dick, he's just telling you matter of fact, there are better kits than that Tamiya Panther A. Seriously, grab a DML and you'll be really pleased, especially if you're picky about detail!

Either way, this isn't the place to jump down people's throats and start calling them names. If someone bugs you, just blow it off and move on.

Yo. Matt. You're contemplating spending $40 a piece for Fruils for your two kits. I SINCERELY posted what I did not to spoil your party but to pass along something to you that could be of benefit. You said you were picky and liked accuracy -- this is how I would describe myself.

Go to the local model contest and pick up superb modern DML kits for less than $40.

Do you think I went through the trouble of looking up and then posting that PMMS link to the DML Panther G review b/c I was trying to bust your balls?

Pfft... have at 'em dude.

I admire you for being willing to play with the oldies. A friendly suggestion for your consideration is that there is an old Fine Scale Modeler book on Armor modeling probably available cheap on E-bay or Amazon which has some simple tips for improving the Panther A classic. The Panther tank is on the front cover. The rule of the game is to have fun. I am reminded of the old joke about the hooker asking who are going to satisfy with that and the punch line answer "me." Just a warning if I recall correctly you may run into problems with the drive sprocket of the Tamiya kit and the applicable Fruil model track may not include the drive sprocket you need. Easy solution if you find that's the case to consider cutting the teeth and strategically rearranging them on the track interface portion.

No comments on the 251 other than I think you may also find that the available Fruil kits might also have a drive sprocket-track compatibility problem as well. Would ask you to go easy on the comments you got. They model at a high level and you were dealing with what I will politely call a culture gap. I took it as friendly advice at their and not a personal attack.

Have at it and have fun.

You sure got that one right.

Not much to learn in that department.

I'd be pretty grateful for a reply like Roy gave, might save me some money. I guess you can't please everyone.

Hi Matt, I for one would go with your old kits, if nothing more than it will be a challenge. Not so long ago I built a Tamiya KVII 70's era kit. I rebuilt all the track guards and all accessories, home turned barrel and added some Fruil tracks etc etc. This build still remains one of my favourite and to top it off it won a best in show in a regional comp. so its how its finished rather than how much $$ you throw at it..enjoy.

Holy over-reaction Batman! I think we know who the douche-dick is if you can't take an honest reply like that for what it is. 3 posts vs 3000+ posts...hmmm, who to take seriously...

Gents, let's try to bring this topic back to modeling.

IIRC Pacific Coast Models is phasing out Friulmodel. Sprue Brothers has them, and there is a new line of Master Link tracks that are getting a lot of attention.

I've had a lot of success and good results with Spade Ace tracks from HobbyEasy:

HobbyEasy::Wheels and Tracks::Spade Ace

Guys in our club have been making "group orders" to save on postage, and HobbyEasy has a track record with us for quick service and very reasonable shipping rates.

The Fruil tracks are getting to be hit-or-miss with manufacturing imperfections. Seems that some of their molds are getting worn out or something. The last set I tried to use ($40+ from PCM) would not assemble in straight runs. They had a uniform and constant curve to one side suggesting to me a mold shift issue.

I finally binned them and used a set of Spade Ace tracks ($25 from HobbyEasy) with excellent results. I haven't even considered Fruils ever since then.

No comment on the OP's manners...

Hopefully, Bill will clarifiy if he was talking about Master Club or if there is indeed a new player. I am familiar with Spade Ace and have used them on a couple of builds. The only ones that I am a questioning a bit is the Spade Ace D9 links for my Doobi, which do not seem to fit without some work or some brute force. I have seen the Master Club metal indie links and I like the detail as well as the resin pins but those same pins are a bit delicate.

You could check out AFV Club they make workable track links and if you look at the right place are reasonably priced , easy to assemble also .

Easy Metal Links has also released a set of D9 tracks. Don't know if they are any better then the Spade Ace set, but they might be worth a look.

EML is available from Der Sockelshop (www.dersockelshop.de)

The link to the exact listing is:

Jon,
I looked at those initially and was trying to avoid the cost and shipping, which was going to make the tracks more expensive than the model. Regardless the Doobi is still in subassemblies, so I have some time...

Sorry for straying off topic

John
