I'm working on an M15A1 CGMC (Halftrack.)

I need some help determining which gun sighting system to use. The two vehicles I have taken pictures of at Ft. Jackson and Ft. Stewart, have the gun sight mounted on the front of the 37mm gun housing, like these:

Most of the pictures I have found on line, have the gun sight mounted on the rear of the 37mm gun housing, like these:

I know the last picture is of an M15, but it is the same sighting system.

So which is the correct sighting system for a WWII M15A1, or are both correct?

Thanks.
Dave

Dave,

First, download a .pdf file of TM-9-235, which is the TM for the 37mm AA gun. Starting on page 216 are the different predictor type sights for these guns. Your last two pictures are of the M5 system, which was used on the M3E1 mount (the M15 CGMC). The last picture is a full view of it, and the third picture is a close up of the elevating portion. The M3A1 mount, which was used on the M15A1 CGMC, used a simpler set of direct fire sights, which are what you are looking at. These aren't well documented in the TM (no mark number for them), but there are some pictures in it.
