Okay clear cost finish question :
I have been using vallejo polyurethane matt varnish as my clear coat mixed with Vallejo airbrush thinner to airbrush on armor prior to weathering and the last few times I have gotten the occasional white speck. I'm running at 15 to 16 psi. Any idea what could be causing this problem?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I'm not sure what, if anything we, yes we, are doing wrong... I have had the same problem on several occasions. I even went and purchased another bottle from a different hobby shop, to no avail. Either I have two bad bottles from the same lot, or we are definitely doing something wrong?
I hope you, and I get some good news, cause it's frustrating me to no end

Try to get the presure down to around 7 - 8 PSI (0,5 - 0,7 bar). What I do is a bit of Vallejo Retarder in it. Just a drop, but should be sufficient. The reason I say this is that I think the paint dries to quickly when it is in the air. Just thin the varnish with the Vallejo thinner, a drop of retarder, mix it very well, and get the presure down.
I guess that will work!

Hilbert

NEED MORE HELP!
So now I have incorporated the retarder into the mix and I continue to get the white specks.
I am still using my Iwata Revolution and I have dialed down the air pressure to 7psi. I have attempted a 50/50 mix of the matt varnish and thinner with a drop of the retarder - no change - same results.
Any recommendations?

Does it look like a speck of dust? I used to get this mixing Tamiya flat base with future.
Only other thing I can think of is maybe filter the paint?

Sometimes 'new' is not better. I still use Testors Dull Coat on my vehicles to 'blend' in the texture of the vehicle. When applying the 'dull coat' also considers the humidity in the air and/or your environment. If its too humid you will get specks and cloudiness. Stick with what you already know from the past IMHO. From that point then I begin my weathering.
