Here are a few photos of the diorama with the title plate on it as well as the gold award from the Lone Star Figure Show.

Mario,
Here are some pictures of the figures as they were being constructed. You will notice that in the raw form they are not necessarily like they turned out in the actual diorama as some of these figures were going to be used for a different diorama idea. When I came up with the idea for this diorama, I took figures from other ideas and placed them into this diorama.
Here is the squad leader. I like boonie hats, so he got a boonie hat instead of this helmet
Well, that is how the figures got started.
Cheers,
James

Hi James these step by step figures are really fantastic for me its really interesting and exiting see your trasformation cutting and saw spare parts!!!!
I like so much the way in which you usually resculpt the cargo pants pocket with green stuff...they are better then original resin one .....; about rto man i undertood that the figure was the green beret colonel...instead, looking at your pictures i assume that you used his legs but the shirt up and down the belt is of other figures isnt it???
About the guitar man ..which is his head? It isnt hornet...or no? In which way you diluited the green stuff sculpt on this figure?? But over all i like the snake man..and in particular the way in which you realized the snake......really incredible.....!!!!
Thanks to share with us your masterpieces!!!!
I hope to see soon same other figures trasformed from you!!!
Bye bye
Mario.

James, It's really cool to see your thought process unfold on the workbench in the WIP images. Great stuff here ... thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Mike.
I probably should have done this project as a build log, but I had to focus on getting it done in time for the show.
Mario,
I'm glad you like the pictures of the figures in progress.
I never said anything about the RTO being partially made of the Bravo 6 Green Beret Colonel. The RTO is the stock figure from the Platoon RTO and LT set just with the head replaced by a Hornet Head and Bravo 6 boonie hat.
The figure that is made out of the Green Beret Colonel torso is the yelling squad leader. The legs are from the guy wiping sweat from his forehead and holding a canteen from the "Take Five" set.
The figure made from the guitar player from the Delta Blues hat does have a Hornet head. It is from the "Bald Heads with Defeated Faces" head set. The Green Putty that you see on that particular figure is Squadron Green Putty smoothed out with Tamiya liquid cement.
Glad you like the snake. That was a bugger to make since the hands were already made to be holding something, so I had to do the snake in sections. All throughout the project, and even right before the show when I was touching things up, the tail kept breaking off. I think if I ever make a snake again I will use wire under the putty to give it more strength.
Cheers,
James

Nice to see your"process". Looks great. Diluted green stuff seems to be used by a lot of guys now.

About your trasformations, do you have the dtoys nam ranger? Its really interesting indeed and perfect to stay with Bravo6 and Hobby Fan figures!!!
Bye bye.

Thanks, Nick.
Just keep with it and don't be afraid to try things out. I am glad that these pictures were helpful. After I get some commissioned pieces completed, I will start working on another figure and I will do a build log on it.
Mario,
I guess I misunderstood which figure you were talking about. The platoon leader is a mixture of the torso of one of the Bravo 6 "Brothers - Mechanized Infantry" figures, the legs of one of the Ontos Crew from Bravo 6, and his head is from Alpine. Arms are from Bravo 6. The bottom part of the jungle fatigue shirt was sculpted by me.
No, I don't have the D-Toys LRRP/Ranger figure. I have only seen them on line, but never in person, nor have I seen anyone build one. I just might have to get one.
Cheers,
James

I just bumped this up to show some friends pictures of this diorama so I wouldn't have to look back through several pages of threads to find it. Sorry. Nothing new to post at this time.

That is a museum piece diorama! Wonderful!!
I appreciate it it even more because I had a very close friend in the 5/60, 9th Infantry Div, who was in IV Corps from 69-70.

Thanks for the comments Evan and Kobus. I am glad you like the diorama. It was the first I have built at my current skill level that had a vehicle in it (at least part of one anyway). I learned alto while building this one so hopefully my next one will turn out better.
Evan,
I am quite familiar with 5/60th Infantry. The were the other Mechanized Battalion in the 9th Infantry Division until General Ewell gave their tracks to the 1st Infantry Division since he wanted to have more Grunts in the paddies. Please tell your friend that I thank him for his service.
Cheers,
James

Hey Jerry,
Thanks. I just brought it to the top out of the sea of older threads so I could show some friends an example of my work and show them what dioramas are. I was going to have to show them on a smart phone so I figured it would be easier to bump the thread up so we could get to it easier than having to search for it.
Cheers
James

Just bumping this up so I can show my PEBLO and VA rep what I do in regards to figures and dioramas without having to log in to find this thread.
Nothing new to add other than building the wedgie helped me develop some skills that are becoming very helpful for the vehicle and diorama I am currently working on.
Cheers,
James

Hey Jerry!
I'm not going to reveal all of the details, but it involves the C Co 2/47th Inf (Mech) Company Commander's track, his crew, some doughnut dollies, a pay clerk from the 9th Inf Div, and some happy Grunts. Best thing is that the gunner of that track is helping me with getting the details correct so it should turn out better than this diorama. Eventually both of these diorama will end up at the small unit museum that they have at the battalion HQ of the current 2-47 IN.
Cheers,
James
