As for the Ariete connectors on Leo 2 pads, you could keep it workable by drilling out each connector and fitting brass wire pins! Then the track could be assembled the "normal" way. It'd be a beast to do without stuffing up a few connectors, but the resulting track would be stronger than the plastic links and be totally workable...
