Hi,
I know the question has been asked before, but that was years ago, and possibly new products are available.
I'm trying to resurect an old project of the M60A3ö and looking for suitable tracks/sprockets.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Christophe

I'm not an expert on these types of tracks and how they'll fit, but I've found several renditions. Afv Club makes a set for the Marder series, and Trumpeter has another set for the Leopard 2. Perfect Scale Modellbau makes a resin track set. Bronco has a set for the Leopard as well. Again I don't know if any of these can actually fit the M60, but I guess it's just to start you off.

I don't think anyone makes Diehl tracks with the duck bill connectors.

There are Ariete tracks from Bronco that fit the bill (pun intended LOL), but I think they are too narrow, could "borrow" the connectors from that set if necessary.

I would say these are Leopard 2 tracks with Ariete style end connectors, but considering how Bronco tracks are designed, combining them would be A LOT of work...

What about the tracks from Slingshot Models?
If they aren't Diehl they are pretty darn close.

I'm getting a set of those for a Turkish M48, but the track pads are a different shape, not to mention the connectors.

The Austrian M60's used a different sprocket as well, suggesting that the pitch or wight was different.

Thanks for the info.
Sounds like a job for a 3D printer somewhere...
Do you know if the Diehl tracks and sprockets for the Austrian M88A1s are the same?
Cheers,
Christophe

The original Leopard tracks were derived from US patterns, The M47 tank used 23-inch wide tracks, while the heavier M48 and M60 used 28-inch wide tracks. When the Leopard was designed, its weight was nearer to the M47, so the narrower track was used. The later Diehl tracks kept that width, and this size is also used on the Ariete (though with extended end connectors). So the question is, did the Austrians use the narrow tracks and add the extended connectors to compensate, or did Diehl produce a 28-inch track? Adventurous souls might want to do some side by side photo comparisons to decide (or maybe ask someone in Austria).

Hi Christophe,
Not sure if you got a definitive answer yet, but I dug out some Bronco Ariete and Leo2 track sets from the stash to compare. (I have a "super M48" build in planning stage at the moment, so will need the same extended track...) The Ariete links are indeed narrow by 2mm in 1:35, so you cannot simply swap pads to get a result.
There are two options that I can see:
1) cut the bars in half on the Ariete connectors so the centre connector and the two end connectors are separate (each with half of the bar still attached), and glue them into the Leo pads to make "unworkable" track runs, or
2) use some Evergreen 0.010x0.080" strip to wrap the top of the Leo2 end connectors to make the scoops before assembling the tracks.
Option 2 is probably better as it preserves the "workable" function and requires only one box of tracks! Tedious, but do-able.

Is it possible that the tracks used on Austrian M60A3s are like the ones used on AMX30B tanks or AUF-1 SPGs?

Yeah, it's really difficult. And when I think of the number of manufacturers doing KV, T-34 or Tiger I tracks, you got so many choices, and for this one, none. Not popular enough.
I'd like to have MARS Diehl tracks as well, individual link, maybe one day.
And JGSDF Type 74 tracks with rubber chevrons.
Cheers,
Christophe

Hi Christophe, my friend Jürgen made the Austrian M88 ARV. He used BRONCO Tracks of Leopard 2 and the end connectors come from BRONCO Ariete set. That was the only way to represent the duck-bill end connector. You can see his build with following link:

One wonders if Afv-club will include this variant in their M60 series.
