What deep wading equipment was used on M4 Sherman Crab tanks coming ashore on D-day? I would like to combine the two.

They were Sherman V hulls so would have been fitted with the relevant wading stacks for that model (plus the usual bostick and canvas waterproofing over joints, gun mantlets etc.

Single large stack at the rear I think(?).

Markings would be either 22nd Dragoons or Westminster Dragoons (depending on the beach you want to portray).

John

As John has said they were Sherman V hulls and had the usual Sherman V wading set attached which was a large rear trunk and a small trunk just behind the turret bustle. Resicast offers wading sets for M4A4/Sher V.

And a little more sophisticated than the set up used by the USMC in the Pacific

I have found the first deep wading device shown. But, I was told the crabs were operational as they left the landing crafts. So, with these wading devices the barrel would be forward and the drum could not be operated until the trunk behind the turret could be jettisoned and the turret turned.

Or! Was the Crab off line until it cleared the surf and the wading trunk dropped? Could the Teller mines be operational in the low tide area?

Maybe, my operation of the Crabs is the question?

Crab is operated with the turret pointing forward.

That first Crab commander must have been a very brave soul to come out and roll up far enough to drop his wading stacks!

joepanzer! You're 100% right! When i saw the post title, I completely knew what the poster was asking -- yet, when you point out how absurd the sentence really is w/o an AFV modeling context, I cracked up!
