Looking for kris of pre-WII U.S. tanks. I have most of the Commander Models resin kits already. Looking for kits or mods that will help create M2 series, T7 Combat Car series and early GMC/HMC. Also, any back date conversions for the Stuart series. To get the early and late M3 before the A1 and A3 versions. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

What version of the M2 are you looking for? The light or the medium tank?

Well unfortunately I only know about the Commander models version of those tank which I guess you've already bought, someone like Takom or Bronco might do a styrene tooling soon though

My advice would be to start building what you already have(rather than acquiring more) -- by the time you get a few done, some plastic maker may have issued more. I'm a big fan of pre-war US AFVs too but I'm there's not much out there in resin that excites me. I've gathered lots of bits and research to do a full scratchbuild M2A1 medium tank (yes, I know there's a resin kit). Start building!

Back in the 1970's someone scratch-built an M2A1 medium based on the Monogram M3 so it certainly isn't impossible or even that difficult since it is all flat pieces.


Ironside once did a M2A4 light tank conversion based on the Academy M3. It wasn't that bad as the changes from the "Honey" kit weren't that major. Again all flat pieces except for the extended recoil housing on the 37mm. There was also an M1 Combat Car kit?


Too bad no one else ever considered doing resin conversion kits. Stuarts (and their immediate predecessors) really have gotten no respect.


Just imagine a world where the M2-M3-M5 light tank series got the loving and anal attention Dragon has lavished on the Pzkpfw III.

Steve: Paul Roberts (who frequently posts here) did a master of the M2A1 for Commanders Series back in the 80s -- converting the Tamiya M3 Lee. They have since issued an updated one (I don't know who mastered the 2nd try). I think Cookie Sewell build it up for Military Modelling a few years ago.

To truly be accurate, the suspension needs lots of work b/c it was narrower than M3/M4 Medium tanks. The drive sprocket had different number of teeth and the track was narrower. Granted, the body isn't insurmountable -- but that doggone suspension has me stuck.

You even know the guy who made the master...

And yes, 20 years later, it could have been better. :-)
