Heh, I love it! Is that a G7e in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? Hopefully them goodies wind up in museums where they can be seen.

Just saw a story from the AP this morning. The photos were really spectacular. Not only the Panther, but what looked like a complete Flak 88, bogies and all. Looked like you could have backed your tow vehicle up to it and rolled on down the road. Incredible!!

With the torpedo, are we sure it wasn't going to be a new UBoat tank? Dont let Dragon see this or they will put this combo out in 1/35.

It looks like some Dunkelgelb I've seen sold in spray cans in Germany. What if he also had some tins of the stuff left over from the war, and re-painted it about thirty some years ago? It looks like a good Dunkelgelb varient though--a light sickly Pea soup colour! I think they should let him keep his collection, then pass it on to a museum when he himself passes. Just imagine, how much fuller his life has been, owning a real Panther Tank!

Well, according to the story... möglichen Verstoßes gegen das Kriegswaffenkontrollgesetz. They're not even sure if the guy has broken any laws. He had a "Genehmigung" for it at some point. If I understand correctly, part of the question now is he, at his age, can be responsible for it. Hmmm... Seems as if he was. Apparently no one stole it from him all this time!
Curious about the tracks. The story also says he drove it around about thirty years ago. So where are they?
Another story I read this morning says he helped plow snow with it once.

What strikes me about this whole thing is the seeming hysteria by the authorities and the media. What do they really think was going to happen? WWIII? A 21st century Putsch?? A bank robbery? This is a classic govt over reach into a private citizens' life amid a trumped up fake concern for "safety of the public"
Just tryin' to keep it real folks. Mountain out of a mole hill here for sure.
On the other hand what a wonderful piece of history has come to light again. Restored or not that tank looks great and the 88 looks even better!!

I totally agree jrutman!
I feel for the gentleman that has been imposed upon; though it's still exhilarating to see this absolutely beautiful yet still Menacing tank!

This will probably end with the authorities realizing they made a mistake, but then coming up with some BS reason why they can't return it. They will likely reimburse him what he originally paid for it (unadjusted for inflation) and then sell it themselves to fatten their coffers.

Glad to see this again, think this was the one shown in Wheels and Tracks magazine many years ago, always wondered what happened to it.As previously stated I believe this to ex-REME.

I hope the guy gets it back but it will most likely end up in a museum with him having little say about it, or sold to a more 'responsible' owner. My understanding is that armoured vehicles in germany have to be demilled by having a hole cut out by the driver, this would be a a tragedy.

Speaking from experience, having had the same motorcycle TWICE being confiscated by the German authorities (and once by the Americans) he may get it back, after a fine for not having met TuV (umlaut over the U) standards. Missing turn signals, REGISTERED license plate, exhaust undoubtedly too loud , and whoah... wrong number of links in your chain there...In fact, none at all.
