Hi Gang,
just stumbled across a news report that the police discovered a WWII tank in the cellar of a villa in northern Germany. According to unconfirmed rumors the vehicle is "2 Meter 20 wide and 5 Meter long" and might be a Panzerkampfwagen V Panther.

Would be a kind of a sensation if another German WWII vehicle survived the war, especially in Germany.

Here a short translation:
World War tank found in the cellar of a house.
Bundeswehr and local police went to house in northern Germany to confiscate a tank. on this occasion they discoverd more arms.
Unreal scenes in a high society quarter in Heikendorf near Kiel.
Police officers block the street, Bundeswehr came with two SLT 56 and armored recovery vehicles (better said Pionierpanzer Dachs). The attorney of Kiel investigates in a case of illegal
arms possesion. Local man Holger Steen saw the tank in person.
He told that the 2,20 m wide and 5 meter long vehicle was used to tear out trees about 20 years ago. several other people confirmed the existence of the tank.
The lawyer of the man in his late 70`s said that there is a tank in the house, but it is demiltarized, means it does not fire rounds.
The investigatores confirmed a massive collection of arms, even a Torpoedo shall be among them.
The entire story reminds a little bit to James Garners movie

It says in the article that the Bundeswehr showed up with ARVs to help with the Panther...
I hope we get pictures of the actual Panther soon.

TV news confirmed the existence of a Type 7 torpedo, enough explosives to level the entire house.
News ssaid also the the tank has no tracks, the recovery operation will start tomorrow. The Dachs AEV comes from the nearby Kaserne in Plön, enough power to recover a 40 ton Panther.

Panther was normally 3,4 meter wide, so maybe it´s something smaller?

Hi guys,
So, understood it is not a Panther
It would be great to discover a german panzer survived the war.
Anyway, better than nothing. Go ahead searching, maybe something more will come out...
Cheers

No, he is referring to the vehicle in the picture, which showed up to help remove the Panther. He doesn't mean the actual found tank.

Looking at the first picture, it looks as if there's something wrong with the back few torsion bars, with the idler wheel at the same level as the road wheels. The position of the suspension looks a lot like this destroyed Panther.

I am thrilled a previously unknown Panther G has just been found and the exterior at least looks in stunning condition.
This Panther must have an interesting history
Many Thanks to the German Police, hopefully on way to a Museum soon

It says he bought it in scrap condition, so this looks like a restoration and so a re-spray

Suggest you look at the surviving panzers website. It's well known but not seen for some years. One of the Panthers built by REME after the war and subsequently found in a Surrey scrapyard with the gun barrel lying underneath it. The story was in an early edition of After the Battle.

The police report that mentioned them having "to confiscate a tank" must be one of the most unique entries ever made!

I'm sure, after 70 years, the torsion bars are shot.
As it's a demil, I wonder if the guy is going to get any compensation for it. As someone else mentioned, that's an expensive hunk of steel they're taking from him.

assuming the tank is not in operational order the confiscation part surely rests on pretty shaky legal ground eh?
