What's probably happened is some bloody reviewer somewhere said they hate Magic Tracks and would prefer DS ones. So Dragon in their wisdom sees that and hey presto .......they think nobody wants Magic Tracks anymore.

Cookie Sewell was very negative about them. I don't know why.
I think DS tracks are a cost cutting measure.
The good news is one always has metal tracks. . ..

What I noticed was when the kit had magic tracks, he'd say something like "individual track links won't be liked by everyone". Then when they went to DS tracks, it was "one piece tracks won't be appreciated by everyone". I think he just knows that whatever they do, someone won't like the track option.

Hi- Magic track (individual tracks link) are different to build. I was a weekend builder and when i have in kit a individual tracks i can´t never finished it (when isn´t a click-clack style). Maybe is good choice a rubber and individual plastick tracks as have it Tamiya in their IS-2.

I bought a Tunisian Initial Tiger yesterday and looks gorgeous. Yes, first Tiger from DML have metal barrel and shells and figures - but - Dragon still re-relase Tigers - from upgraded moulds and upgraded parts - it isn´t better as twenty years old moulds from Tamiya or Academy - when producer make new variants of parts with better detaily and with current technology ? I don´t understand why is metal barrel better, when is slide mold, without seam... Rye Field have poor barrel (when i read a review) and DML is simple best Tiger I in market, no ? I was happy from this kit, finnaly i can´t speculate over old Tiger I "Ausführung Afrika" from Tamiya... I bought a few years ago too a new release of Initial (first issue with Deutsche Wochenschau Kamera team i sell - sigh...), now i have a REAL Afrika Tiger with all diferences for this important machine...and very nice idea in my head for little dioráma

Yes I've done a bit of searching and looks like there's other people complaining about him and his bizarre dislike for Magic Tracks.........

http://www.network54.com/Forum/47211/thread/1254328835/What+is+the+knock+against+Dragon+DS+tracks-

I'm the first person to admit that gluing together indie links can be tedious but when you get into the flow of making them it's not so bad especially with Magic Tracks which have been cut off the sprues and tidied already. Do a length each night and before you know it around 4 nights later you've got to the point where you're shaping the end links around the sprockets. And there's no comparison to me with rubber band tracks. DS/rubber band tracks just don't look right no matter how much work you do with them.

So if he posts on here then do us a favour Mr Sewell.....stop dissin da Magic Tracks as many people like them and also Dragon.......please realise not everyone thinks like Mr Sewell and many of us prefer Magic Tracks to DS ones.

I think Cookie Sewell was listing Magic Tracks as a disadvantage in kits with MT and then he would list the DS tracks as a disadvantage in kits that come with DS tracks.

I think Dragon have a strong record of doing whatever they want regardless of what people think. I believe they know people detest the DS tracks, still they keep pouring them into their kits because that's the best solution for their business model.

Fresh from Dragon USA

http://dragonusaonline.com/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=DRA6608

80 USD and DS Tracks. Nice going Dragon

$63.89 + Shipping, from DRAGON USA, as per their recent ad, ca. March 18. 2016, for those that might like to take advantage of the "discount"... Yes, that still includes the lamentable "DS" Tracks- Those hoping for a return of "Magic Tracks" should take a "reality check"...

Maybe Mr.Sewell couldn't find anything else to gripe about as regards to this kit.

From reading the many posts on this site, "Magic Tracks" are more popular than "DS" Tracks could ever be. Let me repeat myself- Forget About "Magic Tracks". "DS" Tracks are here to stay.

Best solution? You'll just have to "Knuckle Under" and buy aftermarket tracks, if you can't or won't stand for "DS" Tracks... Or, if you're patient and have money to burn, search or wait til you find that older DRAGON kit that still contains "Magic Tracks" and all the other goodies that USED to be included in CYBERHOBBY/DRAGON kits...

All the belly-aching in the world won't bring "Magic Tracks" back into any CYBERHOBBY/DRAGON kits, so GET USED TO IT...

Dennis,

The irony is that the Tiger DS tracks are more accurate than the Tiger Magic Tracks, because the DS tracks have hollow guide horns (correct), while the MT have solid guide horns (incorrect). If you are after accuracy, then you will have to get AM tracks, even if your Tiger has got MT.

The Panther MTs are also not entirely correct as they have the correct guide horns, but they are not handed. The Pz III/IV MTs are great and handed, so Dragon replacing them with poorly moulded DS is a leap backwards.

This is another reason why I have a kit, and some aftermarket, stash collected over the years/decades. Take a Tiger kit, one that is close as possible resembling this newby Tiger, throw some aftermarket 'corrections' and Friul tracks at it, and I'll still be well under the $80 mortgage being asked for this kit!

DS tracks are ideal for shake and bake build. Better was a click - clack - workeable tracks only....
