Thanks Bill,
I got a bit done on these guys. Got putty and carving done on this guy plus added a mess kit with his belt running through the carrier handle. Saw a pic like this on the famous surrender footage in Czech. Rep. in 1945.

I took a GenII messkit and removed the detail, cut off the handle and put it in the stowed position, then added the hinges on the sides from the AM PE set. I finished up with thin wire pieces for the handle.Kind of got carried away maybe?

Added putty to the old man as well.

He is also due for more PE stuff, etc.

Good eye Mike! I put that detail in there when I was changing the uniform to a later version without the pocket pleats. Thanks for the comment buddy!

When I hit the next goal on this dude I will post some happy snaps, thanks for asking,it means a lot!!

Hey Jerry,

This first painted figure looks pretty darn good. The facial expression is good and I like how you replicated that effect along the seams of the jacket pocket flaps and the front flap and collar.

Can't wait to see the others.

Cheers,
James

A GI from the 504 Parachute Infantry mumbles to himself "How'd I end up on THIS detail" as he presides over th surrender of yet another sad sack German unit that has made it into the American lines at the beginning of May 1945.
His attitude is in stark to the Landser filing past surrendering their weapons. Some are happy for this whole thing to be over, some disgusted it has come to this and some .....just plain tired.

Dejection and disgust are in this youngsters' mind

As he adds his Kar98 to the growing pile of surrendered weapons.

Alte Hase from a signals unit just wants to go home after his second war.

Presiding over this drama is the GI whose only response is "On your way bud".

A very nice one!!
I have been wondering a long time when anyone would do such a scene with the piles of weapons and all.
Love the detail as usuals and the facial expressions are sublime!

Thanks for typing in Ron!
Yeah,I have wanted to do this scene for years and I figured I would knock this on out between working on the two big dios.
This was also a handy way of getting rid of some stuff in my parts box. It is still overflowing but this made a dent at least!

Hi Jerry - nice, you captured the sentiment very well. The subtle ground plane treatment looks "right", not overdone and like an actual trail. Your "little" projects are every bit as nice as the epic builds.

Thanks Nick,
I appreciate it. One of these days I will attempt a radical groundplan like some of yours!

Hi Jerry, I'd been wondering what you’ve been up to lately. This seems as though it’s right out of an end of war newsreel. You’ve captured each soldier's attitude with their unique facial expression. … And that surrendered weapons pile is just out-of-control cool ... right down to the open-chambered MG34s!

I was wondering where this dio was headed since the start- you always keep us guessing Jerry! Its come to a brilliant conclusion though. As with all your work you have captured a scene from this period of the war to perfection. The look on all the faces expresses exactly the sentiments we'd expect to see and helps to tell the story. Its also the small details that make it great to view- like the Kar-98K just about to be thrown onto the pile- its perfectly balanced at the point where it is just about to be thrown down and the pose is perfect to convey that. Another triumph Jerry!

Thanks for the nice comments Mike and for noticing the open feed tray covers on the MGs. I also removed the magazines from almost all the SMGs but left a few on for variety plus....I just like they way they look. I know the GIs would have made the POWs clear all weapons but they just look so cool, what can I say?

Thanks as usual for the very well written comments and kind words buddy! I did intend for the story to be told with the young guy throwing his weapon on the pile and the GI being bored with the whole thing and you saw that right off so I have to assume that I accomplished my goal! Thanks.
I don't know about the triumph thing but hopefully this scene is better than my last as one always hopes to improve?
Looking forward to more of your build thread soon.
