This kit has been kicking around the workbench for far to many years. It is the Airfix Dodge WC-62 although the box top only calls it a "personnel carrier". I have a Skybow kit of the same vehicle but I wanted a quick, easy build! Okay, truthfully, I don't know what I was thinking other than this was in the way and was quietly chanting, "build me, it will be easy". I fell victim to the siren call of old plastic.
I thought it would be fine, old crushed box but the plastic bag inside was still intact. What could go wrong? I opened the bag and most of it looked fine, like aged wine. Or maybe Joan Rivers with a face lift or two. I inspected the sprues and realized something was amiss. Inside was a mismatch of sprues from the WC-62 and the Willys jeep with no sprues for the advertised trailer. I'm thinking it was someone with access to a plastic bag sealing machine that just crammed as many sprues in as they could all those years ago.
I could post a bunch of photos but I always forget to stop at the appropriate spot and besides, really? If you have ever built an old Italeri kit than you know what this is like, good fit, lots of flash, a good bit of fudged or absent detail, what's not to love?
I decided to just build it without any aftermarket or worry about what was missing (other than a few missing parts that I had to fabricate).
Give me a few more days and I should have some photos up.
Cheers,
Rick

Well, the kit goes together easily enough. Lots of flash and ejector pin marks, etc., but most has been cleverly hidden unless you turn this critter over. The underside is a veritable forest of ejection pin marks, rather than spend a day or so dealing with them I think I will just attach the kit permanently to a base; I know that is the easy way out but I have only so many more years of building and I have to much in my stash! Quite a few of the larger parts had a bit of a warp to them, understandable considering their age, and had to be persuaded into correct alignment, but nothing that was to bad.
Here are some photos of the near complete build. Few details to add then on to some paint and other fun stuff.
Cheers,
Rick

I used to have this in my stash years ago as well, i bought it purely on the box art which i thought was fantastic. I never built it but i did build the Command car version. wc54 ?

Looks like a fun project. It just desperately needs a Voyager Model PE set for the dashboard and maybe a Tamiya parts set with the ring mounted machine gun.

Did the same thing with the old Tamiya M-20 Scout Car and also with their little GPA kit. I just wanted something easy, OOB and quick for a change - only added a few AM parts - really enjoyed the builds!
