I had just a little bit of time at the bench tonight and decided to do some assembly on this Dragon DAK Tiger 1.

This is the first Dragon Tiger 1 that I have worked on. My intent right now is to build vehicle "141".

I will say that the Dragon instruction sheets are very busy and you definitely need to pay attention to what you are doing.

The torsion bars are installed inside the hull. The road wheels have been removed from the sprue and sanded to remove the wheel mold seam. I have completed this assembly on the rear bulkhead. I had to fill a small gap along the bottom where the bulkhead meets the bottom plate. I also had to fill two small holes at the top of the bulkhead since I'm using the PE shields included in the kit.

This will probably be a slowly evolving project as I have some higher priority projects going on.

You might like to know that, in the 10 years since this kit was released, we have learned more about the colours of these Tigers.

This is a paint plan that I drew up for the forthcoming Dragon kit, 6608.

You may also wish to know that Tiger 141 had a turret bin different to the one in the kit. For that reason alone, we will not offer "141" as a decal option in 6608.

The colours are RAL 7008, 8000 and 8020.

This is indeed a good illustration.

Any reason why front mud guards are painted black on top view? Also, if 141 is not offered, what is the option besides 142?

With the kit I'm building, you can build 141, 142 or 112. The kit comes with a special storage box that is for 141 only.

Those are the mudguards. The tracks are visible on the edges of them.

No, the section they are located in is blacked-out so I am guessing a printing error of some kind. Are there flap options to choose from? This would indicate they left those blackouts as placeholders for the different flap images but accidentally left the appropriate image off the final draft.

Not having seen the original I am merely speculating.

Yes, Dragon noticed the different box. They provide photo-etch parts to make it, including four very very small latches.

But, they didn't notice that this 141 bin is actually taller than the other ones.

That is merely the CAD software trying to print the grid pattern.

The options in 6608 are tentatively planned to be 112, 122, 132, 142, 724. They're all practically identical.

So to be clear:

The overall base color is RAL 8000.

The camouflage overlay is RAL 7008.

And the Feifel exhaust system is RAL 8020.

Is this correct?

I don't know. It's a work in progress. I would guess October.

David Byrden,

I know this is an ancient thread, before Dragon 6608 was released, but I am getting this kit by the end of the week, and I recently purchased the RAL colors 7008 (MMP-008), 8000 (MMP-017) and 8020 (MMP-010) from the Mission Models line. I liked that the Mission colors seem pretty 'dull', subtle is perhaps the best way to describe their colors. I was wondering if you have any idea how well the Mission Paints labeled with RAL colors match the best known paint chips that are out there. I must say that the 7008 and 8000 colors are REALLY close together in color, which, as I recall, was the case on the real tanks, an almost indiscernible difference in color in color photographs, and almost no way to tell the difference in B&W. Do you have an opinion about these Mission colors?

Tiger 142 painted with Mission Models RAL 8000/7008. Note the tool box is MMP RAL 8020. 142 had Dk Gray Feifels and a tan tool box. Yes there are two colors on the tank.

The real Tiger 142. Look closely at the first color photo. You can just see some of the RAL 7008 on the right front corner of the hull and front plate adjacent to the mg mount.

I'm not the person to ask about modelling paints! I don't build any more.

@ Wayne: thanks a bunch for the pictures and explanations, a perfect preview for my forthcoming effort, but I can't come close to your level of detail. Guess I'll have to settle for giving it my best shot 😊

@ David: didn't know that; sorry to have bothered you with that question!
