It's actually a lit pipe inserted into chamber, with the pipe stem pointed towards the muzzle. 'The shotgunner' blows into the bowl of the pipe to send the smoke to the 'shotgunee'. This is a detail that the sculpter unfortunatly misser, but can be seen in the video stil on the review.
Much better than Verlinden's old hippy

In Platoon scene sgt Elias blows cigarette (no pipe) smoke. I sculpted fingers for cigarette between, you can see it at box-art.

Screen of original video clearly shows a pipe, gents. I don't seek to disparage the work done or the accuracy. But Platoon is a movie and that video is reality. The movie method doesn't work nearly as well, since you only get a toke as big as the other person takes, if that.

Hi Simon,
Blowing the pipe bowl is probably a more effective way than blowing smoke directly to ejection port but I am sure there were some guys using the no-pipe method during Vietnam War. Anyway, pipe bowl can be easily scratchbuild to create a scene as in reference photo.
keep safe

But Vladimir has many sculpts in his Bravo6 line that are based on the characters in the movie Platoon, (which he has stated for many years is one of his favorite Vietnam movies) with amazing life like appearance to Forest Whittaker, Charlie Sheen, John C McGinley, William Dafoe etc. so what does original footage have to do with any of this?
In my teenage years I shotgunned many a joint with friends and it never included a shotgun or a pipe/bowl. You simply placed the lit end in your mouth and blew. Merely googling 'shotgunning weed' brings up a plethora of photos and posts describing this. Do you think those two dudes in the footage are the only people to ever do this? Do you think they invented it? Does it even matter?

Wow man...far out...groovy...outta site. He ought to sculpt the 60s and'70s USAREUR soldiers using Coca Cola cans as makeshift pipes...not that I have any direct knowledge of such actions.

Depends on what kind of realism exactly you are going for. Grey wolf made an excellent point where he said a bowl would be simple to scratch build.
Now a days, shotgunning is called super toking, and doesn't even need a joint. Just blowing the smoke from one mouth to the other, using a tube or cupped hand as transit method. Or lip to lip of you are really good friends
Does pointing out the accuracy of how they are smoking make us the hippest rivet counters around or what?!?

Absolutely.
...and I remember doing the 'lip to lip' thing as a young dude too, but only with girls.
