Traveller - now that brings back memories!

Early '80s were a time of massive Traveller & Dragon Quest campaigns in my neck of the NY woods...

We did Call of Cthulhu as well. I miss the days of sitting around the table and playing these.

Maybe we can get some interest in playing T2K as well, I have so many ideas for campaigns.

I'd heard of CoC, but it wasn't big in my circles. Shame, as at the time I was really into HP Lovecraft's books. The "dirty secret" at the time was a cheesy Mad Max-style board game called Car Wars, where players drove around a post-apocalyptic supermarket in cars armed with all sorts of goodies. It put the "Demolition" in Demolition Derby!

As for running a T2k campaign, why not? Start a thread in the Campaigns Forum with a proposed set of rules, and if you get at least ten pledges it can be submitted. Lots of great art comes from the Campaigns section.

(There are some "how to" threads pinned in the forum, to show the ropes...)

[EDIT] Oops! Looks like Matt has already set one up! Just saw the thread, and it is on the Campaigns page for enlistment!

We played Car Wars, as well. XD

Yes, I'm looking forwards to Matt's campaigns, do I just sign up on that board? EDIT - No worries, I figured it out, Anna is in.

OK, I got some pix of my Academy M48 so far:

The hull bottom - filled those pesky motor holes.

The top of the hull, a pretty nice assembly, I think.

The turret. I like the looks with that 105. Anna likes big guns. XD

Turret close-up. The photoetch storage basket parts from Eduard don't fit too well, they were designed for the Tamiya M48A3, but I installed what I could, and I think when she's piled with all kinds of gear it'll look right for T2K.

Looks good with that 105 on it. I've been wanting to put a 120 in an M-60 lol.

I like your concept. I've been working on an M1A1 Abrams with a "Red Storm Rising" theme for a while now, but it still looks off for a "what if?" vehicle.

I'll keep watching this thread.

Mike, thank you. She's going to be beaten and worn by the time she's done.

I'd like to see a kit of an M1IP, which would be perfect for both "Red Storm Rising" (11th Cav, yes?) and "Team Yankee". Maybe if we're lucky, Meng will do an IP.

That would be nice, wouldn't it?

So far I'm stuck. My whole basis is that the development process would've been significantly advanced in that scenario.

But the A1 still looks too modern for the time frame and I've had a heck of a time back dating some of the features.

Having an IP kit would certainly fix that issue lol. Aside from the old ESCI 1/72 kit anyways.

Still thinking of throwing the old 7th Army colors on there and going forward with what I have... eventually.

What scheme do you have in mind for your 48??

I actually bought one of those Esci 1/72 M1s on a clearance sale and was delighted to see it's an IP. I'm thinking of wargaming in that scale....

Anyhoo, I found a scheme online that I liked:

(I know this is an M60) I thought I'd do her like this, except olive or NATO green where the brown is. It reminds me of the schemes in the T2K Us Army Vehicle Guide.

That's a standard MERDC scheme. You can find the painting guides online, as I have. I have my M1 in one of those patterns currently, but it doesn't look good.

I think it would be more than appropriate for your build to go with a MERDC scheme. It "fits". lol

Yeah, when you think about it, no fall of the Berlin Wall, no ODS - maybe MERDC would have stayed around longer.

Well yeah. The introduction of the NATO standard wouldn't have happened yet, if at all, and we would've stuck with MERDC.

Just played a Traveller scenario last friday using TNE rules and the T20 "Gateway" setting

And about twice a year a T2K group gets together to play "The last Big One" where the "BöFei" decided to attack during the last day of Reforger 1988.

Strangest RPG Session I ever did was during a reserve exercise in the 1990s. Playing T2K on the back of a Bundeswehr 2to.

===============

A T2K campaign / sub group would be of interest. Currently working on a "Leopard turret" vignette.

It almost looks as if the lady is freezing.

Now T2k does not ring any bells. Red storm rising and Team Yankee do! Still have them in my library here at home. But I might need to get some new copies. Mine are starting to fall apart.
