Well, the CAD's look really nice.. and they're showing the anti slip surfaces very clearly, which indicates they will most probably do them.. Definitely looking forward to this one.
Of course, including an engine would definitely put it over the top

I hope they mold the ERA and other TUSK pieces separately so the modeler has the option to build an M1A2 SEP w/out TUSK parts. This is the only bad part I find in their M2A3 and M3A3 Bradley kits. The modeler can not easily remove the ERA mounting strips from the side armor panels to build it w/out BUSK. Molding the TUSK parts separately would give more options.

This is definately looking like a must have and build. Thanks for the update.

Gino, why don't you send them your suggestions? They always seem willing to accept both suggestions and criticism.

The page admin probably doesn't read every comment.. better to send your suggestion as a message through their page.. they pay more attention to those.

Can you send me a link to the page? I don't frequent the manufacturer's sites.

Liang Sun said this on his own FB page... "The M1 series"
"The MENG M1 series start with the M1A2 SEP TUSK I & TUSK II which has the most modern exteriors. Though this is a comparatively new M1, I started the study from the earliest M1 tank. As we all know, the M1A2 has evolved from the early M1 tank and has kept many details of the M1 tank. Today, let’s take an overall look of this kit. I will bring you more details later."

The bustle rack looks a bit thick, but overall I will buy almost any Meng kit. And for those of you following along at home, it's pronounced "MUNG" - rhymes with "dung" (means "older brother" in Chinese).

Looks fantastic. An Abrams with the accuracy of the Dragon kit and the buildability of the Tamiya kit would be something like nirvana. Even better since they're hinting it's the first in a series.

After checking out the CAD shots for a good while, it doesn't seem like there's going to be an overly large amount of photoetch. Definitely going to have to pick this one up.

Good to know. Looking forward to a FUPP even if as an add on separate kit.

Wonder how much PE will be part of the kit? Do not see skirt chains, pad locks, etc yet

I hope so, as a Desert Storm Abrams or an original M1 with the 105mm gun interest me much more than the current ones do.

Looks nice !
But why do they "exclude" the weld-seams from anti-slip ?
In the factory it's applied over the whole area .... in use it does tend to be rubbed off the weld-seams in some places.
Cheers

Yes, an M1, an M1IP, and an ODS version, I'll buy all three, and probably more than one of the IP.

I hope they mold the ERA and other TUSK pieces separately so the modeler has the option to build an M1A2 SEP w/out TUSK parts. This is the only bad part I find in their M2A3 and M3A3 Bradley kits. AGREE!!! On the surface, with these initial photos, it looks like DRAGON has some REAL COMPETITION with MENG's first Abrams! I'm sure that these new M1s will be very similar to DRAGON's in construction. However, many modellers have voiced their opinions as to DRAGON's sometimes un-clear instructions. Hopefully, MENG's instructions will be clearer.
IMO, it looks like MENG's Bustle & Stowage Racks just might be separate units, and it's distinctly possible that their TUSK I & II kits can be assembled without the TUSK parts. Logically, (I'm guessing) it would make sense to engineer the TUSK kits this way, saving MENG a boatload of extra money in not having to create another set of different slide molds (which are hideously expensive to machine) just to create "without TUSK" parts for any subsequent Abrams kits...
I'm very interested to see how the MENG and DRAGON M1s stack up against each other. Visually, the new MENG kits look like they compare very favorably against the reigning DRAGON "KINGS of HILL" M1 kits. There should be some REAL FUN for us in reading the inevitable "building & comparison" reviews ahead...

I TOTALLY AGREE, ANNA! The prototype and initial M1s have been virtually ignored in the model manufacturing industry ever since the first TAMIYA and ESCI 105mm M1s made their debuts back in the 1980s...

The Tamiya M1 was the first tank I evers finished. I sprayed it with Pactra OD, painted whitewash camo with Polly S, and added accessories.
